Oxygen sensor help needed!
 

just replaced the old exhaust. Down pipe that didnt have a factory sensor flange on it, but it had the 2 bolt flange for the factory cat. I got it from a guy who had a 89 pickup 4wd witht the 22re. It fit the manifold and the bends cleared everything underneath. So i had an 18mm x 1.5 oxygen sensor bung from summit racing welded in so i could just screw in a sensor and do away with the flange style o2 sensors. Since its hard to find a flange to weld on.

I got an NTK universal sensor 4 wire and spliced it to the old connector. Now im getting CEL and im almost sure its the o2 sensor. I found 1 thread here that said the wiring is :

OE:
BLue = signal
White = ground
Black = heater (2 wires)

Universal:
Black = signal
Gray = gound
White = heater (2 wires)

IS that right:?? The wiring instructions that came with it show details about toyota 4 wire sensors they just dont have Blue or white wires in the diagrams.

DOes anyone know of a sensor that would have the factory plug (no splicing), and thread into the bung i have? AND work with my 22re?

Theres gotta be a way to make it work. Ive seen replacement sensors for our trucks that screw into a flange. Ive seen 4 wire sensors for the cali emissions that thread into an 18mm x 1.5 bung. So there has to be one that will work for my pre cat sensor that isnt a flanged type.

Anyone know of one?

The sensor i have may be wrong. Although i just checked the wiring and there was a bad connection so im gonna fix it and see if that is the problem. And then ill post back.

Denso 234-9002 4 wire connector before the cat.

I would much rather replace broken studs then replace oxygen sensors that are seized in threaded bungs .

It is simple to make a flange with studs or at the least cut one from a old system.

It is pretty hard to figure wiring if you don`t say what year,:jessica:

Wyoming, Have u heard of anti-seize thread lube?? It works wonders! I feel more confident with a threaded bung rather than a flange with a gasket that is more prone to leaking. Just my opinion though. I read other posts here that ppl had trouble finding flanges to weld on. My old flange was rusted out completely, not reusable.

Also sorry i didnt mention this before i need to figure the signature thingy out.

91 pickup dlx, 22re, 5spd W56,4wd manual hubs, federal emissions. Basically all stock. 30x9.50 bfgs

just checked out Denso 234-9002, and its a flanged o2 sensor. I need non flanged 18mm x 1.5 threads(common thread size for O2 sensors). Preferrably one with a connector already on it so theres no splicing.

It says its for after cat but its 4 wires just like i need and the wires are the same color as i need. BLUE,WHite, And2 black. And its non flanged......like i need! lol

Can anyone confirm that this will work for me?

Well ima happy camper:camp: right now! My trucks running the best it has since ive owned it!!! I owe a lot of thanks to yotatech of course:rockin:

I disconnected my battery 2 nights ago to clear the CEL. Rewired the 02 sensor last night and hooked it all back up about 30 mins ago. And no CEL and idling and revving very smooth! PROBLEM SOLVED!!

Keep in mind i have blocked off my AAV due to what i think is failure of the wax element inside. So i dont have a cold high idle, and it doesnt want to idle right away after starting. I have to feather the throttle for about 30-40 seconds then it idles at factory specs or what i have it set to.

Now i need to figure out something to silence the exhaust, Im gonna take some pics tomorrow and ill post em here so everyone can see what im talking about. Plus im proud of my work and would like to show off a lil :fork:

Down the road i would still like to switch to a denso sensor but i guess ill have to see what the dealer says about the non flanged 4 wire sensors for my rig. Since no one here wants to tell me:booty:. Not a major concern anymore since what i have seems to be working good atm.

I read a a few paragraphs but didnt really see the answer to my question. Im goin to assume that those 4 wire after cat sensors would work. But cant be positive until a tech confirms it.

I was also reading after i fixed mine so i was really excited about how good its running :bllama: Im gonna drive it a decent amount tomorrow to really test it out. Goin to scrap an old 22re engine block and head to get some extra cash. Ive already stripped it for all usable parts like injectors, water pump, rocker arms, VSVs, egr, and other things. I just need the money. I was gonna save and rebuild but its in bad shape.

Then I missed the part where you said you had the bung welded in reading to fast.

I could see where it would be a problem for you to make your own flanges.

This never seize I think I may have heard of it that is what you put on instead of thread locker.

There may be a case or so :camp:sitting around.

I forgot where I saw them, but Toyota two-bolt to M18x1.5mm O2 sensor adapters are available as are threaded sensors with the right plug. I think I saw something about it in the 7th gen Corolla forum on Toyota Nation because those cars use both types of sensor body depending on the engine.

I ordered a replacement Denso for my truck a few years ago and it was just a universal threaded sensor with an adapter flange and the correct plug already put on.

I didnt get a chance to take any pics it started to rain and i was busy fixing other things. But i will take and post some soon!

Trucks been running real good just having to tweak the idle a bit since the AAV is blocked off it seems harder to get a solid idle. I may have it set good now though we will see in the morning.First day my truck will be taking me to work since October!

I still have to drain and fill the tranny with MT 90 sometime this week after work. Its real notchy hoping that will help. Also need to rig up some quick release hinges mine are shot on the drivers door. Then drain the front diff and transfer case and fill. Change the uppers and one lower ball joints. After all that ill be ready for some mud!! Cant wait!!
