Oil pickup tube gasket
 

So I've just about got my new 22re put all back together and saw somewhere that there's an oil pickup tube gasket and I didn't use one. Does anyone have any insight on this topic before I pull the oil pan and have to redo all that? Like it's very important or I dont really need it or there's not a gasket there. Thanks.

Not sure exactly on this car since I haven't cracked it's oil pan (will in a couple of weeks) but from past cars I've worked on, there is a o-ring on the tube when it dips into the oil pan. It's really small and simple to take out. You just have to match the size. I am assuming this car is no different. This o-ring is just to keep oil from leaking out to where the tube sticks into the pan.


By the way, I would probably buy an OEM gasket for this since this is crucial to sustaining oil pressure. Don't want half the oil to leak on it's way to the top end.

There is a gasket, I used Mahle VG B45715. OEM part # is 15147-38020

This gasket is under negative pressure (suction), which reduces the chance it could leak. If it did, air would get into the pump, and that would not be good.

I wonder if menphis is thinking of the the dipstick tube. That mates with an o-ring. It's not under significant pressure, though.
