another trick I've see is to provide some relief from the bolt by cutting away some of it's collar (the wide round piece around the bolt head).
2x on that. Pull the 4 bolts and remove the 3rd v belt pulley off of it. gives you a little bit more room. If you haven't yet done some pull the rad and maybe the fan if that is in the way, and depending on how much more you are doing. Cutting off the collar is going to help a ton. If you ruin your balancer, let me know, I have an extra. I haven't found them locally but there are bolt extractors that grab the rounded bolt. But at this point I'd cut that collar off first then try one to see how it fits, beat it on. Something like this. http://www.acetoolonline.com/product-p/irw-53914.htm. I would use heat at this point as well. Rapp the thing hard, penitrant, repeat.

While its still running, ya might consider taking it to a do it yourself spray wash place and clean up the motor and under carriage.

Thanks all! I'm headed out of town here for a few days but will be cutting that collar off. I found a thread on pirate4x4, so if anyone stumbles upon this again here:http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...ght=crank+bolt

one thing to know about impact guns is that even if its rated for 1000 ft lbs. it doesnt mean thats what your getting. your compressor has to supply the correct PSI and at a constant rate as well.

I got it off!

So a bit new method.

This...

http://www.amazon.com/Irwin-Industri...1209113&sr=8-2

Plus this...

http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...8359_200328359

And this

http://www.amazon.com/Vise-Grip-9-In...209247&sr=1-11

equals one happily removed rounded bolt. Now to figure out how to get the rest of this stuff off and figure out why some bolts have triple stacked washers on them. But some previous mechanic didn't realize they were different lengths, took the easy way out, and created an uber leak of a motor.

So someone used some sort of hellish RTV on the oil pan and cant get it off. I bent it. Any ideas how to get it off so I can get a new one? and is there any good way to see if the timing cover is warped? (the only reason why I can think of that I'd need a new one)

make sure all the bolts are out, all the ones around the back and up the sides, they are tricky to see.

Get something thin, I used a putty knife, but a chisel, or something of the like should work. get a small hammer and tap it in on a corner and break the seal. You either need to lift the motor up, drop the front diff or a combination of both to get the pan off.

I unbolted the motor mounts and lowered the back of the diff and slid the pan out the back.

I finally got it to pry loose of the gasket but I doubt it's true anymore. Great. I'm assuming the 22re pan fits a 22rte motor.

What did you take out to lower just the back of the diff? Thanks!

Just unbolt the sway bar, all the diff mounts except the one on the front x-member (just loosen that one) and tilt the diff down onto a jack or jack stand.

The oil leak at the top of the tchain cover is most likely from somebody pulling the cover to replace the timing guides..
Only way to fix that is to replace the headgasket..

Dont tell me that. The guides look new and the timing case cover had clearly been removed before and was leaking out of some bolts among other places. So to replace the timing chain the headgasket has to be replaced to? That seems a bit nuts

No, it doesn't have to be replaced, but if someone was not smart about how they did it and they pinched the head gasket, then the HG does need to be replaced. Look down from the top of the head, where the timing chain is. Look to see f there is any gasket poking out the back. I had that same problem.

Look for something like this. You can see on the right side, the gasket is pushed out where the mechanic pinched the gasket putting the head back on, which caused a very large oil leak.

Thanks! Unfortunately I don't quite see where in this photo.

Like that massive shinny piece?

The shiny thing sticking out between the head and the timing cover. Between the cam gear and the distributor gear.

Look up at the head where the timing cover goes from below and check its not messed up at all. If not, you're probably ok on the HG.

psh i bend oil pans from time to time due to being extremely hard to remove. you just lay it flat on the ground facing down and take a flat punch and tap the areas that dont lay flat till its fairly flat. the FIPG silicone will take care of the rest

Ah awesome good to know. I still wish they used real gaskets but at the same time I guess this is the advantage of FIPG.

Well the seal on the oil pan is broken, the motor is raised to max, and the dif is rotated as far down as I could get it and the pan still doesn't come out. Do I remove the oil pickup tube? I have plenty of room to get in there to do that.
