OEM vs Silicone coolant hose kits?
 

Hey all, long time lurker first time poster!

I'm currently restoring my dad's 1993 PU with a 22re. Some of the hoses are quite crusty, and considering the cars been parked for abt 15 years I figured it was probably a good idea to replace all of them at once.

I'm currently looking at 3 kits:
LCE's silicone coolant hoses
22re performances "original Toyota" (rubber) hoses
Yota1's undisclosed (I think rubber?) hoses

In your far more knowledgeable opinions, what's the best move here? Will I regret having silicone hoses? Is the price point for the "OEM" (+$200) worth it? Do I really need the spring clamps or are the standard hose clamps okay?

Also, let me know if there are other random rubber parts/hoses I should look at replacing as well.

Great point - and I'll admit I'm going a bit overboard changing all of mine out, but it's the one part that's ever failed on a road trip in my other cars, and it's happened twice now! So I'd prefer to be ahead of the game.

My point is just that the OEM rubber hoses seem to be pretty good. At least the ones that came from the factory.

I didn't have any fail until after about 35 years, but have largely replaced all of the coolant hoses now. And several of the vacuum hoses as they've become hard and inflexible.
I've stuck with the factory rubber hoses on the Toyota, but switched my motorcycle to silicone.

I think any of the ones you mentioned would be fine. The only silicone hoses I've run were because I got them for free. They were good hoses that lasted, but so were ANY other hoses I've put on my MANY Toyota trucks. I personally think it's hard to beat OEM but my Dayco, Gates and Continental hoses were all quality hoses for less money. I definitely prefer the original spring clamp type hose clamps. They don't need to be retightened like worm clamps and don't eat into the hose.

It only takes one overheat to cause potentially severe engine damage so replacing old hoses is a good plan even if they "look" ok. Good luck with your truck!

I think Im just overthinking it, I'm probably gonna go for the reasonably priced set of rubber ones, or take a look around at the dayco, gates, and continental options and grab a set of spring clamps!
