odd fuel problem

Hi every one love the site.

I have an 88 toyota xtra cab 4x4 5speed ifs with 6 inch lift and 35s It had a v6 long time ago till it blew then a guy swapped it all out for a 22re after blowing up several of them he sold the truck to the prev owner who put in a 22r. I think its an 81-83 cuz its got the twim row timing chain.

So one day I parked the truck at ross and let it sit for like a half hour then it wouldn't start. Amd soon after it wouldn't turn so I got out amd turned it by hand then it barely cranked over at all and still wouldn't start. I noticed it was dumping fuel out the exhaust right after the exhaust manifild and it was a lot of fuel. I looked inside my carb and it was full to the top with gas. So I took off my gas cap and it made a huge swoosh sound then I waited for the gas in the carb to lower and got it to start.

When I go bounce around the hills it will act lile its being flooded out and try and die so I have to keep my foot on the gas for awhile till it will idle.

There's a vacuum canister on my fire wall that's not hooked up nor do I know where the lines go. I think I need a fuel pressure regulator cuz the truck is still setup for efi. A 22re will bolt in I still have the ecu wiring harness and all so I think the efi pump is making to much fuel pressure.

Ain't efi like 50 psi and the carb only needs like 5?

Sometimes if I release the pressure in the tank before I try to start it it will have a tough time starting. I've replaced the float and needle valve and a lot of other things from a gp sorensons kit I got from autozone.

Idk if this is right section cuz of the motor year.

Any ideas? Thanks guys

who made the 6" ifs lift?

curious cause I want higher.

Its 4inch suspension lift and a 2 inch body lift.

I am thinking, fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump not turning off when it is signaled to. It maybe running after the power is turned off at the switch, hard wired to the battery.

Also, I don't believe a carb is designed to work with the pressure of an EFI system. You might have to get an adjustable FPR to solve your problem.

There is nothing wired to the battery. What about that canister could it resolve any problems? On bluebass the guy said his are clogged from mudding and it doesn't seem to have any effect. I know the canisters r supposed to do something with vapors

It maybe possible that the canister is getting filled with fuel from the amount of pressure you say is in the tank. I believe your truck is not safe and I would be towing it to a mechanic before it burns.

Well the canister isn't hookrd up thr prev owner removed all the hoses and I can't find a diagram that says where there supposed to go. And I get some ppl saying I need it and some ppl say I don't.

From what I gather its lile a wastegate for the carburetor and gas tank relieving the pressurr whrn it gets to great.

There is extreme pressure in the tank at certain times. Ive talked to the local toyota dealership and they just said they can't help me. The truck is sitting because of this problem and it seems like I shouls be able to run a fps and a vent line to my tank

You believe the pressured gas tank is the reason your engine is flooding with raw fuel. And you believe the high pressure is caused by no ventilation from the canister. IDK if this is possible hopefully someone here can chime in to help.
