Odd Cooling Problem
 

My 1995 3.0 was cooling fine, or maybe a bit too fine, because the temp gauge would barely come off of full cold.

I decided to have my cooling system flushed and had them install a new t-stat (stant). I drove it on short trips (5-10 min) for a few days and the temp came up to the middle and stayed.

I took it out on the highway on Sunday, got about 20 miles down the road and the thing started to overheat. The air temp was -2 F on that day. They checked the t-stat and said it is opening fine, and they now suspect the water pump.

It just seems strange that it worked fine before the t-stat change, then the first trip of more than 10 minutes, it starts to overheat.

Any ideas?

odd how stuff works like that, soon as you mess with it to make it better it breaks, i think most water pumps have whats called a wheep hole, and when the pump isnt flowing right, it weeps out of this hole, i would also suspect the water pump if it was -2
