Obsolete Seal retainer gasket?

Hey guys Im replacing the rear main oil seal and retainer, but when I removed the retainer I dont remember any gasket, just seal packing. When I bought the new main seal it came with a big floppy gasket:

Do you guys think I should use the gasket along with the seal packing or just discard it? Seems like perhaps the seal packing alone is a more sound application..

Use whatever the FACTORY repair manual calls for. If Toyota themselves put a gasket there then use a gasket but if not use what Toyota uses or equivalent. What engine is it? My crystal ball is in the shop being repaired due to the high volume of posts.

Haha my bad its a '92 3vze, and the fsm makes no mention of a premade gasket but it just got me really curious why it would even exist if I shouldnt use it.

Do not use it. I'm pretty sure you use anaerobic sealer and not RTV. I could be wrong.

Change the thread title to a statement instead of a question.

Lol very complete post and I thank you, but like I said I have read the fsm. This was just something i wanted to get another opinion about

That will work, but IS NOT the same thing as the Toyota FIPG.
