Hi - I think this problem points to a thermostat that needs replacing - but just thought I'd check.

Recently, suddenly, I noticed the engine was slow to heat up. Usually it creeps to about half on the temp gauge within 5 mins of driving. After 20 mins or so it barely crept to 1/3. I also noticed that the oil gauge, at idle, was over half (it usually sits at about 1/3 at idle).

I think this is a faulty thermostat. Would I be correct?

Also, if it is, is there anywhere I can get a procedure for this? Do I need to remove the fan to get to the lower hose?

AND - sorry to be a pain - is there a proper procedure for a full flush/replacement of coolant?

If the thermostat is stuck open, yes it will take longer to warm up. Just be glad it did not get stuck closed because then it would have run hot.

On my 1992 Toyota pickup with 22RE, I can slip up under the driver side front, and remove the clamp easily from the bottom hose that's attached to the radiator.

It's just two bolts on my truck that hold the thermostat housing. There is also a rubber o-ring that I have to replace too. Don't need any gaskets or gasket sealers because the rubber o-ring will seal it just fine. Make sure to buy the o-ring because they don't come with the thermostats.

Thanks. Forgot to mention this is a 6 cyl 3VZE engine, not a 22RE.
