Noise Questions

Hey everybody,

Just recently I started to hear some newer noises in my 1991 4Runner with the 3VZ-E. It sounds like it isn't the engine top end, but maybe front end. The first noise sounds like its coming from under the timing belt upper cover. Its almost like the belt might be moving forward and backward on the camshaft pulleys. The second one is closer to the firewall on the right side, and it sounds like something electrical. It isn't constant but sounds like an electrical buzz. Anybody have any ideas on what either of these could be?

Zach

i like that idea. since i've been hearing the noises i've not drivin with it on. normally when its on i'm not afriad to push the engine to 4000 rpm but with it off i try not to go past 3000. i also know that Toyota engines are normally really loud but run fine. Would a timing belt make noise do to wear or will it just break.

Noise Questions

I have a 89 4runner with 3.0 i had some noise coming from the front of motor .from searching the forums. I beleive it to be either the water pump or the idler pully. See if you can move the fan pully back & forth with some play if so it has bad bearings. my noise kinda sounded like a belt squeling. far as the other sounds from the firwall might be a senser.

Could be the upper idler arm bearings on the timing belt. My suggestion to save headache and possibly a lot of money, pull the timing belt cover and inspect everything.

I thought I had that buzz narrowed down to coming from the windshield wiper motor, then it quit makin' it recently. Not constant like your sayin', but then gone. It makes me a little more crazy than I already am . So next time I hear it somethings gettin' taken apart.
