I have a 94 toyota i just rebuilt. Everything new except rods. Engine cleaned at machine shop. Cylinder head rebuilt at machine shop with new camshaft. Bored 20 over. Main journals turned 30 rods 20. New Oil and water pump. ALL oil clearances were checked before re assembly. Pickup tube cleaned with good degreaser and compressed air before re assembly. Primed by cranking engine with no plugs and coil disconnected. Tried 2 different oil filters. Unhooked sending unit and oil poured from sending unit oil hole and filter. Tried 2 different guages and still showed no pressure even though oil was coming from them. Oil is making it to cylinder head. A little valve rattle. Even tried swapping oil pumps. Ran truck to 170 degrees a few times. OIL coming from sending unit hole just no pressure. Just pours out. Running 10 w 40 oil. Should I Pack the oil pump with something and try it again. Very frustrated. Any suggestions would be great.

Sounds to me like a oil gallery plug is missing.

With absolutely no pressure what else could there be?

Machine shop have a warranty on the rebuilding itself?

It is a 2.4 EFI . The machine shop took all the plugs out when I gave them the engine. I put them back in. I replaced all freeze plugs. Plug in back of motor, front of motor, coolant plug on driver side and plug inside passenger side motor mount. Does it seem like I missed one somewhere?

there is an oil galley plug on the inside of the oil pan rail close to the middle of the block, did you forget this one?

Possibly! I'll pull oil pan and check. Can the pan be dropped without hoisting engine?

When I think of no oil pressure, the only thing that comes to mind is the main bearings or the rod bearings. I had a buddy who rebuilt a sbc 350, and got it all back together, no oil pressure, the racing company he got his bearings for sent him the wrong ones, like either for a stock crank, or one cut 10 or something, either way, they weren't right for how his crank was.

Thanx for the info, but the oil pan gallery plug wasn't in and I do not believe the previous owner put it in when he rebuilt it which would explain not getting very many miles out of the rebuild. I checked all ring gaps and journal diameter oil clearances before I reassembled the engine. They were all within specs. Thanx, your imput is appreciated.

anyone have pics showing where all of the oil plugs go? in the process of rebuilding a 22re and have one left over. i am pretty sure that the oil galley plug in the pan is in.

I don't have the photos - they may be up on 4x4 wire as I know engnbldr got involved in this discussion at one time. I believe photos were posted.

You need to pack your oil pump. If you don't pack it, it may not prime, regardless of cranking RPM.
