no more 4wd?
well it snowed here last nite so of course i went out and played in it! took out my 4runner and went up to my highschool parking lot and did a few doughnuts then me and my buddies wanted to cruise town for a bit, so i wanted to put it into 4wd so it was a bit safer on the road...well i shifted my lever into 4H and nothing...hubs locked and everthing..but no lite on the dash...it "clunked-in" like normal and it felt as if it were in...so i though maybe the lite was bad...nope...4x4 was deffintaly not working..this is great snow is here and i would like 4wd for the snow what could be my problem?

humm...idk if it was ADD from the factory...but the pass side hub was a little difficult to lock in (meaning the turn from the "free" positon...not to get in, just the first twist type movement)... could a low fluid level cause this? and why isnt the lite on?

Light has open circuit somehow? It's actuated by the t-case shifter when you engage the t-case. On most transfer cases, that is. Can't says I'm familiar with the ADD deal or those electronic(push-button 4wd) units. Low fluid? Where, trans,t-case? We hope so eh'? Hubs being stiff turning don't mean a thing if your sure they lock-up. Did ya try 4low? Could be broke shifter, maybe. May sound/feel as if working properly.

when i got my truck, to test that the 4wd was actually working, i kept the hubs unlocked, but put it in 4 wheel high. i had my dad watch the CV axles. if they spin, it's working, if not, find out where your problem is.
(i also tried climbing a slippery hill near where i bought the truck in 2wd, and obviously didn't make it, and put it in 4wd and drove right up. )

I don't know about y'all, but there is a HUGE difference in handling of my truck on snow and ice between 2Hi and 4Hi. There's absolutely no doubt as to whether ir not it's working.

as of now, i know whether or not 4wd is working just by how the vehicle feels. (especially on dry pavement)
