Is this at a shop, or doing all the work yourself? When my auto fails, if the truck is still worth keeping, I'm going to swap in a 5 speed.

That's no fun when things go wrong out on the open road. It's great that you were able to limp it home in low range.
Glad your mechanic got it fixed and your truck is back on the road. Good point with the near 300k miles. It's pretty amazing if you think about everything those parts have been through!! BigMike |
Yeah, I was lucky BigMike. Had just driven over Ortega Highway from beach to lake Elsinore in Socal, long and winding 2 lane road. Glad it waited til I was 20 mi. from home and getting off frwy to cut loose. I don't know how many guys here would have the capabilities or right tools to do this job at home, I certainly don't. $1300 bucks sounds like a lot to put into a '93 but this has been a very reliable truck for me and I would rather have it than a new one. A swap for a 5speed would be nice, but again this is primary transportation and when you need a running vehicle you can't wait to find a tranny and swap everything out. Thanx for everyone's input. Damn, so it sounds like there's no way around this issue than to just throw lots of money at it?
Anyone want to buy a '95 4Runner with no 2H or 4H? |

Fixxed mine!!!! Lucas transmission repair and conditioner, $12.99. Changed the fluid and filter, pour this stuff in and taadaa, runs and shifts better than before and its been about a 1000 miles or so.
