no back brakes

Went to get my inspection sticker today and they threw it on the dyno and the guy kicked the test off and strapped my truck in and revved it up to speed and when it was time to bring it back down it wouldn?t slow down?.no back brakes! They are stock drums?I have one drum off and they don?t move if I hit the brake pedal?any ideas on what this could be this couldn?t have happened to long ago cause the other day someone cut infront of me and I slammed the brakes and I heard a slight squeak out of them. What could this be I need to fix them so I can get my sticker?not off to a good start. Let me know guys. Any things I can test

Check the wheel cylinders. Pull back the boots on each side and see if they are full of fluid. If any of them are full of fluid then they are bad. There might also be air in the rear, but not in the front. If the wheel cylinders are not leaking, then try bleeding the brakes. The master cylinder might be bad, but I would check everything else first.

If you lift your truck without changing your proportion arm angle then you won't have much brake in the back.

If the parking brake levers and/or cable are rusted and freezing up, that could be a problem also.

So I put my truck on jack stands and pulled the drums off and turned the truck on and hit the brakes and the pads do not separate they don?t even move, the Cable for the ebrake works but it also does not separate the pads. What could this be. Any write ups on breeding brakes. Just the rear brakes? I tried searching and couldn?t really find anything.

go to the top of any page and click on the fsm links provided. check out the brake section for troubleshooting then dig into them. from the sounds of it, yours have seized up and are in desparate need of service.

you dont want to skimp when it comes to your brakes, might as well give the fronts a good going over while you are at it.

Open your rear bleeder screw a bit, step on the brakes and see if any fluid comes out. Do this on both sides. If fluid comes out, suspect your cylinders are seized. If no fluid comes out, go to the proportioning valve.

Open the proportioning valve bleeder screw a bit, step on the brakes and see if any fluid comes out. If fluid comes out, you likely have a bad (or maladjusted) proportioning valve. If no fluid comes out, you may have a bad master cylinder.

How does your pedal feel? Stiff or does it go to the floor?
