No 1st gear?

Well I've had my 4Runner since November. Been taking care of things and getting used to it after driving my 88 5 speed for years. Went to the tranny shop for service and they called and said are you aware you're starting off in 2nd and not 1st? I had no clue. It seemed to shift very smooth. I guess I just didn't notice. They said some clutch material was in the pan but not much metal. Had the service done and paid attention. Yup no 1st even manually shifting. Any ideas as to what I should look for?

Thanks!
Chuck

No 1st gear?

I dont trust most tranny shops. If i were you i would take it to another shop(not saying anything about other shop saying the 1st is out. "You should be able to tell if it works or not". count how many times it shifts. 3 times in ( D ) & 4 with ( OD ) onn.
