newbie: HELP?? trading my 2wd for a 86 4runner!!
just want to say I am going to trade my 89 2wd for an 86 4runner 4x4. Here is the description the owner wrote:
I have an 86 toyota 4-runner,I will do a STRAIGHT ACROSS TRADE for a toyota pick up between 1985 and 1993, ITS NOT FOR SALE JUST TRADE, the truck must be in the same condition as the 4-runner. its a good vehicle, 4x4, runs consistently and no major problems
its automatic, 4 cylinder, it has A/C but needs to be recharged I recently changed all fluids and replaced the battery terminals and battery
it has fresh tires, it has an upgraded stereo system (sony speakers and cassete plater), it has 15" rims and an aftermarket rear bumper it has 189,621 miles
the small issuses are the passenger window takes a while to roll up, it needs a new back window switch and a new back window it was taken out by a golf ball(it was relpaced with plexiglass) and when driving for long periods of time the oil temp, batt charge and brake lights come on then mysteriosly turn off
The exterior is white with a black back it could use a touch up job but it doesnt look terrible, the interior is gray (the upolstery is in really good shape no ridulous stains or rips)
WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?? the pictures look pretty clean. I have never owned a Toyota 4x4 and I was hoping for some advise from the experts! what do I look for when I test drive it? what am i looking/listening for when testing the 4w HI/ 4w LO? any advise helps and thanks in advance!!

make sure the hubs lock and it engages into 4 wheel drive.
also, look at the engine and see if you see any obvious leaks
and look at the frame and make sure its not rotted through

there are a 'few' members from so cal on here, maybe see if someone might be able to go with you to check it out. buy them lunch and a beer afterwards, two beers if the rig checks out and you go for it!
