New Rims and Tires for my Runner.
Okay, so 2 weeks ago I got a set of BFG ATs and yesterday I scored some 3rd gen rims that I had an idea to paint up so they don't look as trashed as they are:
3rd gen rims: http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/u...ty/photo-6.jpg http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/u...ty/photo-7.jpg Came with Hub Caps: http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/u...ty/photo-8.jpg And the PRICEY OEM Lugs: http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/u...ty/photo-9.jpg The BFGs that are going on them: http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/u...y/photo-10.jpg My question is if anyone knows the name/product number of the paint color used on the FJCruiser TRD rims. The dark grey/gunmetal color with the red TRD logo in the middle? I want to paint the rims that same color after sanding them down and removing the salt residue from them and do the center Toyota logo in the same red as the FJC TRD rims. |
arent the 3rd gen rims 16s or 17s?? the rims you have look like they are 15s... but i could be mistaken...
id just go down to the paint store and find a color that matches close, but you still like it... that way no matter what, your rims are still custom and not the norm... |
Ive seen that kind of rim in 15, 16 and 17. I think scuba has them in a 15.
You could go to toyota and ask them about the paint? |
I have those rims on my 89 4Runner and they are 15's. I got them off a 95 Tacoma.

Yeah, they're 15s. I'm just skeptical that my spacing on my other rims is different than the OEM ones, so there may be a little rub with the 32s. Just anxiety I guess lol.
:llama: |
PS Jeff: I'm planning on doing the same thing to my 86 after I pick it up this week. Yours looks sweet with the Tube doors like that. I'm ordering my BL and Bikini Top right away aswell :)

I like the rims the BFGs are on better... :hillbill:
|
seriously, what's wrong with the wheel's they're on
|
I kind of too, but the chrome is always dirty and some of them are peeling a little. IDK. They may be repolished and up for sale here in a few weeks ;)
|
lol, the chrome is dirty? that's why you're getting rid of them?
dude, wash 'em, lol on a serious note, how come you don't just paint those? |
IDK. I just don't like them as much lol. I've always liked those 3rd gen ones, ever since I got the truck. I also like the idea of going back to some actual yota parts. I may use those on the other truck though. I got the 3rd gens for only 50 dollars and think I could actually make a profit selling the old ones. Its just preference I guess. They do look good though, they may stay on, they may not. I'ma paint the other ones and see how that goes and maybe paint the old ones while the other ones are on.
The dirty chrome part is just is just laziness on my part. lol. |
I think the 3rd gen wheels look good on second gens as well. You can get the charcoal color in a rattle can from an auto body supply store. I believe the name of the paint I use at work that is a really close match to that is called Dark Titanium Metallic and it is made by SEM. It holds up really well also.

The rims I had on before these were ugly IMO and pretty jacked up. I also got a sweet deal on the 3rd gen rims so I couldn't say no. And as CRafferty said - Personal Preference. I just like the look of the 3rd gen rims.
The backspacing was perfect - until I did the BJ Spacers. I ended up getting 1" spacers to clear the UCA. I had to cut out the center of the caps to fit over the hubs - very easily done with the dremmel. I got the tube doors from 4xinnovations.com and the bikini top is from Downey. CRafferty - I see in your sig you are getting sliders - have you ordered any yet? I met a local fabricator recently who made me a set for a steal - I feel like I ripped him off. He even custom mounted them for me and gussted them. If you are interested, I can get you his info. He is in Queen Creek near Schnepf Farm. He can make just about anything too. I'm going to work with him from now on for all my fab needs. |
Did you have to cut the center of the cap because of manual hubs? And what was your clearance issue after the BJ Spacers?
And about the fabricator, yeah, that'd be very cool to know a guy thats good with metal fab. Once I have the funds to get some I'm totally going to spring for some and maybe a bumper in the rear. Could you PM me his info and maybe a pic of what he did for yours? |
