New guy seeks help! Cant figure it out 87 pickup 22r not re
Hi guys im new to the site i own a 1987 yota pickup carbed 22r 5 speed 4x4 having some problems with it was hoping someone could help ive tried alot of things, my issue is the truck ate a fuel pump, after repacing it it wouldnt run so by mouth i blew through the fuel in to carb line and was able to clear it and hear air travel tjrough then after re assembly the truck would fire up and die ( assuming the cold weather was to blame) i turned the idle speed up now the truck would run perfect until it got warm (temp gauge little below half) then it would idle down and go to the high idle and miss/ sputter i checked all my vac lines took egr apart seems to move as it should and was clean and free of debris no soot, all plugs should be ok wire connections are perfect, cant see it being a carb issue because it runs fine everywhere but decel off the gas and idle turn idle down it wants to shut off i tried advancing/retarding distributor didnt help any either way any ideas??

Maybe something clogged up the idle circuit in the carburetor? The problem kind of sounds like a fuel cut solenoid that is stuck in the closed position, but a clog in the idle circuit would most likely do the same thing. You can take out the fuel cut solenoid without taking the carburetor out of the truck, test it, and spray carb cleaner into the ports that lead to the solenoid. That might be enough to release the clog, but there is a chance it will leave a piece of whatever clogged it floating around in the float bowl.
