Cool New 4runner owner needing some advice!

Hey everyone im new very new to this forum and I had a few questions for all you...I just purchased a 90 runner with a blown motor. Im trying to decide if I want to go with the 3.4 swap or just stick another 3L back in it? Besides all the issues with the smog and everything else that comes with a swap is it common practice to swap the tyrannies to or will the 90 manual tyrannies hold the extra power? And also does any one have a Tacoma or 4runner that was rolled or what not that could be a donor vehicle? Im very excited to own my first Toyota...im tired of buying domestic!

I'm told the stock R series transmissions will hold up to 400 horsepower and tons of torque (think dual/tri xcases). The 3.0 is a complete dog in stock form. You would be much better off going with the 3.4 IMHO. It's got the same motor mounts, same bellhousing etc. Donor vehicle would probably be cheaper in the long run and give you a chance to make up your money in parts.

People have hooked up that trammy to a 350 V8 so it should be able to handle it, if there is an issue it might be to do with bolt line up.
If you put a 3.4 in you also have to rewire and throw in a new computer and everything else. where as a new 3.0 is much easier and you can put in weasy2k's cams, a set of headers and so forth and get all kinds of added power out of that engine for about the same money once you factor in all the added labour expence for a 3.4 swap. Just my 0.02.
