New 22RE motor, white smoke

Got a '94 ext cab w/ a 22RE reman motor. I dropped it in, hooked it up, and from the beginning it smokes, white, not as thick as a blown HG, but thicker than cold weather condensation. Any thoughts? It has all the egr hooked up.

"White" smoke is usually water. Stick you hand into the smoke; is it wet? Oily? Sooty?

There is no "standard" blown head gasket, but white smoke suggests you have a water-to-exhaust leak somewhere.

Consider doing a coolant pressure test; you may be able to find where coolant is leaving the system.

Before the rebuild did you have a blown HG? Did you get coolant in the exhaust during teardown? Have you driven it long enough for it to warm up completely, if so did it still smoke after cooling down and restarting? Give it a chance to burn out any coolant or water that may have collected in the exhaust and see if it still smokes and like scope says, do a pressure test.

New 22RE motor, white smoke

To scope: did the hand trick when it started, just wet. Will do the pressure test next. No visible leakage on the outside of motor. Thanks for the input.

To akwheeler: got the motor from power torque. Had it up to operating temp twice, probably not long enough. I will take for a drive and do the pressure test. Thanks for the input also.

white smoke could be from assembly grease
