neutral start switch

i have no reverse lights, starter wont enguage. can the switch go bad without having any previous problems. How do you check it ?. i tried to postion the linkage many different ways but the truck still wont start.

It can go bad at any time. And usually, it goes bad in the worst of places heh. Truck will only start in P or N of course...does everything else work? IE you have power to everything else, and your battery is good?

Not Toyota related, but the neutral safety switch went out on my Chevelle, i just jumpered across it ot see if it was bad. Started right up. course then i just left it like that till it was totaled a few years later. Just remember to take out your reverse lights cause they will be on all the time and you will get a ticket for showing white light to the rear......:bigok:

have someone hold the key and bang on the starter with a hammer. starter contacts could be dirty.

DeathCougar 03-18-2007 10:46 PM

Yea...dont bang on your starter, unless you are 100% sure it the problem. Banging on them is a quick fix, and a sure way to ruin a good starter.
