Need to know what's different about my rear suspension
 

I have a 94 4Runner V6 manual. It was pretty heavily modified before I bought it, and I just got a Pro Comp 4" lift. I got the front installed after 3 days of fighting with it (one full day was spent just replacing control arm bushings and both inner CV boots). I got an alignment done before doing the rear, because I need it driveable to go to work, and I have land cruiser springs already, so it's not a huge difference in height. I measured about a 1.5 inch difference in height from the front. I was going to go ahead and throw on the rear kit after I got back from getting the alignment, but right away, I noticed I don't have bump stops. The kit comes with bump stop extensions, but I have no idea how it originally mounted. I'm thinking maybe the center of the cone is rusted out or was it open to begin with? I don't want to start the rear installation unless I know I can get it all done in one shot. If someone could let me know what it's supposed to look like or what I need to fix to get bump stops back in there, I'd really appreciate it.

It looks like the rubber portion of the bump stop is gone. I want to say the metal cone will fall out once you remove the spring but not 100% on that. They may be held in place with a bolt in the middle of the cone.

The cone is part of the frame. Its supposed to have a flat bottom on it it with a single bolt hole for the bump stop to bolt to. There is no drainage for it. Water gets in the top and pools in the cone rusting it out. which is what happened to yours. Nothing special about it. Just old and used. If your willing to go through the work a new bottom can be welded onto the cone. Other than the missing bump stop there really isn't any adverse side affects. Mine the same way and it doesn't bother me. I drive my runner hard and have caught air in it more than once. Never have I ever bottomed it out from a bump. Tires don't touch anything either. Yours may be different. It also allows me to stuff the rear tire extra good too. It stops stuffing at coil bind. Again, tire doesn't touch anything. I can't fit my fingers between the tire and fender at full stuff but it doesn't touch.

Thanks! This is exactly what I was wanting to know. The previous owner seemed to know what he's was doing, and since the bump stops aren't hanging out inside the spring, he must have removed them and left them out when adding the land cruiser springs. I actually just bottomed out my rear passenger tire in the wheel well today pulling out of a parking lot with a dip at the exit, but I have about 600lbs of tools loaded in the back today. I'm sure under normal conditions it'll take a lot to bottom it out, but good to know the tire is the stopping point instead of the axle. I don't have sway bars, so when I get a lot of travel on one side, it doesn't cause the other side to tuck much at all. But now I just need to work on getting the limiting straps installed. The bracket doesn't fit the lower shock mount like intended.
