pull the ecu (computer) open up BOTH sides of the case and see if there is any corrosion/growth in there due to water inside.
spent a BUNCH of time on this type of thing on a 94 3.0.

I realize i have limited exposure to yotas so far, but i have a lot of experience with BMW's and it sounds a lot like when the coils are failing. We recently had a hesitation/bucking problem in my wife's 325i. We replaced all 6 coils (1 per cylinder on these things) and it runs perfect now. Try replacing the coil and see if that helps. Ours idled fine and revved great in neutral, but as soon as it was under enough load, it hesitated and bucked.
Backfiring at all??

anyway, the one thing I could think of is your fuel flow, is it fuel injected by any chance, or are we still workin with a carburetor, if its fuel injected you may have to weak fuel flow, but I figure the computer would do that for you or maybe its giving to much fuel, if you have a carb you may have toclean it out or see if there are some broken parts. not your air flow because that would make your engine run bad and you said it idled fine.
This must be extremely frustrating

Ok. After all that work, I unplugged the 3 VSVs on the engine. One for the EGR, AS and FPU. Now, she runs great. Not sure if it's the VSVs or something they control. Tried to unplug one at a time, but "she" still bucked. I'm guessing water must have hit all three when I went through a mudd hole...not for sure. I'll buy new one's later and post a reply. Thanks for all the help.

Did you unplug the electrical connectors to VSV's or the vac lines? (The EGR isn't electrical, but still has the vac lines, of course.)

Didn't realize you had a CA truck...
Pulling the connector for the A/C VSV would have no effect other than keeping the VSV closed.......the same effect as not having the A/C on as turning the A/C on is what causes it to open. So, I bet it's either the EGR or FPU VSV's. Maybe even the FPR itself.

Yeah, that's a great website, thanks. FPR is good, my brother checked it out. But you may have something on the EGR VSV. I read somewhere that the charcoal in the canister breaks up overtime and this can get sucked into one of the VSVs causing to stay open when it should be closed. If I unplugg the VSV, I'm assuming it's closed, so if it's stuck open......Best guess is that is what might have happened, but won't know until I'm able to locate the VSVs. Nobody seems to sell them. Anyway, I'll post once I know for sure which one it is. Thanks for all the help.

You know, my Yota will go damn near go anywhere I ask her to and I won't hear a peep out of her. She'll run great, do anything I ask and then about once a year she goes on the "rag" and I don't know what the hell her problem is....this is how I know she's a "she"......:-)

I had a similar problem, as well. I have been running mine without the EGR valve for a few months, and it definitely solved the initial issue. Now, though, I have a new issue, which, since it's not been answered here, I will be posting a new thread about. Probably not until tomorrow, though, as I'm wanting to try out the spark plug gap fix.
