**NEED HELP** timing chain rubbing on cover

***NEED HELP*** timing chain rubbing against cove, upon first start up after complete rebuild 1987 toyota 22re 1 ton dually

ok guys i just had engine completely rebuil,t new head, injectors, almost all sensors new. Problem is i took motor to machine shop / corner taco stand kinda place. About me this is my 3 rebuild
motor ive completed, also former 10 years as service manager in retail shops goodyear, pepboys so i have extensive automobile engine knowledge and experience. The taco shop engine machine
shop guy came buy my house to see the problem he states " i put oil pump drive gear on backwards causing the chain to rub on cover". We did discover he left lower bolt completely loose on the timing chain tensioner. My question to you toyota gurus is i know its physically impossible to put gear on backwards and run the truck. Please look at cover in photos to see were chain rubbed and come up with standard conclusion as to what caused this to happen. ive got $1800.00 invested in this rebuild and it cant even leave my drive way. Thanks guys any help is appreciated.

The tensioner could not do it's job. Seems that is the only problem really.
I'd say replace the tensioner, torque the tensioner screws EXACTLY with a tiny dab of red loctite.
Damage looks unproblematic from here. If you are feeling off, get a new timing chain cover. Check deck height in case you have a machined block.

yeah thanks man i appreciate the response back into my nightmare rebuild job. i emailed Ted Stanwood the only real toyota 22r\22re guru left on the planet i could track down for help and pretty much said its machine shop \ taco stands failure to tighten tensioner bolts to torque enabling the tensioner to do its job as you have put it as well. sounds like i gota take taco / machine shop to court for repair fees because i cant and wont just put new timing kit back on those metal shavings went into oil pan, possibly bearings needs to be torn further apart and and at minumim reinspected and flushed out
