My truck will not rev?!?!?

I have a 1987 4X4 P/U with a 22RE engine and a 5 speed manual transmission.
I swapped a non turbo engine in place of the factory turbo setup. So it still has the turbo ECM, injectors and wiring harness.
My problem is that it will not rev above 4200 RPMs at that point it starts to cut out and no more power.
Anyone have an idea what may be causing this?
Thank you, Phessor

I'd be willing to bet it's the non-turbo ECM :dunno:

Hmm...mine used to not rev above 4500 and bounce off of it. Acted like a rev limiter. Turns out I had low compression in #3 cylinder. 50 psi to be exact. And now it likes to bounce of the rev limiter for several seconds:p

a badly installed TPS can cause the same symptoms too

a buddy of mine built a 22re from the ground up, only to get it to rev only to about 2500 rpms; at 2500 it sounded like it was bouncing off the rev limiter. He asked me a take a look at it, and after a little searching and diagnosing, it turns out he installed the TPS in some way that it was reading about 45 degree off.

I had a shop do the injectors and I noticed that they had adjusted the TPS at the same time. How do I go about checking and adjusting it?

I hope its not this problem as it is a new engine.

the turbo ecu is expecting to see boost and the required fuel and such as determined by the AFM. the ecu is probably applying fuel and timing curves suitable for the turbo but since you don't have it, it's actually reducing your power.

check the FSM stickied thread; tons of good info; you'll need a multimeter to get it done right...
