MY new 1995 4runner

Well I bought this today for 2500.00 I am stoked. It has a 5sp 6cyl 4x4 141000 miles and runs really good. I am happy. What are some preventive maintenance I should do to it? and is there anything I should look over that I couldn't do on the test drive?

at 141K miles, the timing chain (unless it's been changed recently) will need replaced as will the guides for it. I recommend finding steel backed guides for it but if you change the chain at approximately 80-100K mile intervals, the stock guides should work fine.
Also, you might want to have the front CV boots and joints looked at as well as all of the u-joints.
From the pics, it looks like the rear springs have fatigued a bit so you may also consider replacing those.

Beyond that, typical servicing of the differentials, gear box, etc. would be a good idea as well.

def check the core support to see if the timing belt has been done. if nothing written about it i would recommend having it changed. the v6 is NOT an interference engine so it wont necesarily get trashed if the belt goes, but it's a good idea to avoid it.

only the 22re 4cyl motors have timing chains.

fluids tune-up the usual for the rest.

Hey thanks guys. One quick question I went and did some minor wheeling tonight and when turning around my rear end was acting like it had a locker? Was that a factory option in 95?

jays92 11-05-2009 07:49 PM

my 92 does the same thing i dont think it was a option in 92

camo31_10.50 11-05-2009 08:00 PM

nope....
my '86 pickup acts like it has a locker in the rear if i make a sharp turn in 4lo...it kinda jumps a little..

but i'm 100% sure that a locker wasnt available until like 96 or somethin like that..whenever the 3rd gen 4runner came into the market..

CRafferty 11-05-2009 08:03 PM

siii. no factory lockers till 96.

or 95.5 if those early taco's had them..

jays92 11-05-2009 08:04 PM

its always does it in 2wd camo, when i make a sharp turn backing in my driveway to go the other way, i know its not a full on locked rear but maybe a limited slip will do this?:bllama:

Flush the radiator & engine ,DENSO plugs, oil filter & oil, FACTORY wires, cap and rotor, clutch and brake fluid, timing belt water pump and pulley's,trans transfer and rears fluid, rear coil springs all so you know they are done and it will keep the 3.0 running well and reliable for another 100+ thousand miles.

Is it wrecked on the drivers side? or is that shadows I see

Hey! I paid 2500 for mine as well!! Nice lookin runner, man.

crawyota 11-06-2009 03:06 AM

hey i got a 95 4 runner sr5 , that i got a few years ago for like 5.000. i have changed a bunch of things on it , i lucked out and got factory installed 4.88 gears. but it does look like you got the rear sag issues def. change all the fluids. and such. don't look to do to much to the motor performance wise since the 3.0 sucks to begin with. i do love it though , it is great on the trails. i'd ditch the running boards and mud flaps
