well good news is that i got my toyota going tonight after several months of sitting. mainly to being busy as hell at work. but got the oil leak fixed from the oil pan. got it all timed up then out around the shop. made a couple laps and pulled it in to check. of course like any project had another problem. just a clamp left off a water hose. well thought it was all good so went and drove it around for a while. still around the shop. pulled back in and my dip stick has come out and doesnt go back in to its place and stay. need any ideas on how to fix this problem. sorry just new to toyota's.. o ya did get a chance to try the 4wd and had to climp are dirt pile hahaha

gotta give people more than an hour to respond. im a little unclear on the current problem. is the dip stick not going back into the tube? is that the problem? have you tried turning it? again, not sure of the issue.

the dip stick tube doesnt stay in the block. sorry i wasnt clear.

Im guessing 22re because you said timing chain, right? I dont have any experience with the r motor, but on a lot of engines I have worked on the dipstick tube has a bracket that bolts to the block. Is it something as simple as that?

did you put the bolt through the tab on the tube which secures it to the engine block?

I had the same problem after the rebuild (22RE). No bracket on the tube. I opened up/stretched/enlarged/expanded the end of the tube slightly to create more friction between the tube and block, and hammered it in place. So far so good.
