my 91 4runner has no obviouse signs of blown gasket but...
it still is showing me its overheating and the coolant isnt flowing properly. i took it to a mechanic after i already changed the radiator and put a thermostat in it. they put a new water pump but after that didnt stop it from throwing an overheating warning they didnt want to touch it and dismissed it as a head gasket. so im here now asking if anyone has ever seen a heater core blockage being the cause of this?

Just what engine are we dealing with here
Must be a 22re changing a water pump on a 3.0 is more involved.
If you have the heater valve in the cold position it should be closed a blocked heater just does not get hot
Not that it can`t be a failed head gasket
What is a overheating warning??
In having the coolant removed was the engine burped every time or at all?/
This is getting the open radiator cap to be the highest point in the cooling system Running the engine till all the bubbles hopefully come out
These engines are known for Air Pockets which can cause all sorts of excitement might be seen as some as a head gasket .
At anytime was a coolant pressure test done ??
Along with the Radiator cap??

its a 3.0
and these mechanic said they did a proper radiator flush. they ran "carbon level tests" twice, first time it passed second time it failed. what i mean overheating warnin is my gauge shifts over to H.

they didnt
becasue they misdiagnosed thry didnt charge we fir the new water pump and the timing belt was good when they got down to it. i dont add coolant as i drive, i put in recommended amount when i did it but it was still overheating. it seems that the coolant isnt even running through it as the temperature rises

you should also do a cooling system pressure test, if you have a bad head gasket this should confirm it by filling a cylinder up with coolant if you leave the pressure on it long enough.
pull the spark plugs and roll the engine over by hand and see coolant come out.
you may also get coolant in the oil, so drain it and have a look for water/coolant.
overheating shouldn't just be written off as a bad head gasket immediately, prove it before spending your money or at least eliminate ALL other possibilities.
Is your cooling fan clutch in good condition? do you have the proper mix of coolant and water? did you get all the air out? what happens if you remove the thermostat and run it?

How do you know it’s over heating ?? Stock gauge?? Get an aftermarket mechanical stick it in and see what that reads. To properly burp a 3.0 you have to park on an incline or jack the front end up so the radiator top is above the rear heater hose. Then stick a funnel in the radiator , add fluid. Continuously squeeze the heater hose , shake the car back and forth, turn heat on high, etc. to get all the air out of the system. Can be very time consuming and a pain in the ass.
