My 3vze head gasket finally blew
I got into an accident about two weeks ago and my car has been sitting ever since. I went to start it up today and it went to about 1100 rpms, I had to give it gas and it kind sputtered for a few seconds then was okay. I noticed it was smoking from it looked like below my drivers side exhaust manifold. I turned it off and looked under the oil cap and sure enough it was milky. Any idea why it would be smoking like that with a blown head gasket?

Oh yeah it has 156,000 miles and I've had it for about 8 months and 10,000 miles. I 've changed the oil every 2500-3000 miles and never let it run low. It's never run hot and still isn't even if I rev it up in my driveway. Where is that smoke coming from?

hmmm could damage have been done to the block itself or the pan?
Reason being if there is a hole or crack in the block from the wreck it may allow coolant to enter the oil pan giving you milky oil. Or even if you have a hole in the oil pan.
What color is the smoke it's spewing? When my hg went, i got sputtering, rough running (only 5 cyls were firing) and it would smoke WORSE than a mosquito fogger. Im taking industrial sized warehouse fog machine kinda smoke out the tail pipe! lol Then after the engine warmed up, no smoke at all....
The smoke in my case was bright white and smelled really sweet. Good ole vaporized ethylene glycol...
Milky oil means water got in the oil, why you have smoke could be if the oil level was raised by the coolant going into the oil pan. If the oil level gets too high the engine will start burning oil...i think.

No I don't think so it was just a very minor fender bender, my passenger tire took the brunt of it. All I need is a new steering knuckle and a lower balljoint. There's no frame damage or anything just my little corner light on the passenger side got smashed in.
On initial startup I have to give it gas and it smokes out of the tailpipe pretty bad. But there is smoke that smells like burning oil (I think) coming from below the drivers side exhaust manifold. I'm hoping it's just the headgasket. It has been using a little coolant for the last 2 months or so I was just crossing my fingers.

if it was eating coolant youve got yourself a blown HG which is actually a bit of a PITA to fix....easy, just really really tedious...
Now what color is the smoke at startup? If its black its unburnt fuel, if its a blueish color its cookin oil, if its white you got coolant consumption.
As far as the oil smell, I had that due to my ultra leaky valve covers dumping oil onto the drivers side exhaust manifold...

It's white, was the smoke visible when it burnt off your exhaust manifold? Mine will smoke from around there for a while, at first I just assumed it was build up from sitting for a few weeks. I'm pretty positve it's my HG, my girlfriends cousin is a toyota tech in Bristol RI so I'm going to have it towed to his house this week. I'll let you know how it goes.

woah wait...
Mine smoked out the tail pipe, i got no smoke from the engine bay when my HG went up. If you are getting white smoke from under the hood, then you either have a BHG or a heater line is loose and spewing coolant all over the exhaust manifold.... Check the two lines goign into the firewall behind the engine. There will also be 2 AC lines, dont worry about the ac lines.
Hopefully a hose just came off or something.

I know this is a somewhat old post but I got my truck back today. Sure enough the head gasket was leaking on #6. So she got new head gaskets, head bolts, t-belt, water pump, t-stat, plugs and wires. It runs so much smoother now than the entire time I've had it. At 156,000 miles I hope to have it for another 100,000.......Crossing my fingers

My girlfriend's cousin is a Toyota tech and he works at Newport Toyota in Rhode Island. He did it at the stealer but he only charged me $1250 for new head gaskets, head bolts, valve seals, timing belt, water pump t-stat, plugs, wires, toyota coolant. I called a Toyota dealer by my house first and they wanted $1500 just for the headgasket and nothing else. He also did the steering rod recall too. I got all new tie rods and an alignment as part of the recall. I didn't know they gave you new tie rods but he said the tie rods are part of it.
