Motor swap... more like a re-birth!
So, I've got a '94 extra cab with a freshly rebuilt 22re. runs great, 23mpg... all is good!
Problem is, it was in a front ender with the previous owner, and after pretty close examination, it looks as though the body panels that I planned on replacing, may not ever hang right on the inner fenders, core support, etc.... not to mention several odds and ends that would require some weekend junk yard hunting... yada yad yada... pain in the ass.
So, if I picked up a straight, clean, complete 3.0 extra cab with a bad motor... and attempted to swap my fresh 22re into it, how much work would I be getting myself into??
Would I be fine just swapping the motor and wiring harness, or would it involve much more than that?

Can't just throw a 22re in a 3.0 equipted truck... transmissons are different... computers different... wiring harness different... gear(s) ratio different... Its a job and really not worth it in my book. Try and find a truck with a bad 22r...
UNLESS!
You were trying to swap everything from the wrecked truck you have to that 3.0 bad motor truck... then you would ahve all the parts to do it... but the labor is still quite intensive...

I did a search, and it seemed that the first road block to pop up was the frame mounts for the motor are different... is that right?
The reason I want to do this is, I love the 22RE motor, but I hate the space constraints of a regular cab... and it is nearly impossible to find a 22re extracab!

Not that bad of a swap, bit of work but not hard. The worst part is the motor mounts. If the 3l is a manual even better. I did a swap to a 3L automatic cab and nothing is different. If you have the whole doner truck then it is just cut and paste. I would do it if I were you. I love the 22re as well.
If you go to an extra cab you will need a 4cyl front section of drive shaft as the 3L is different length.
