Motor ideas

As you know, my 22re isn't doing so good. For those of you who don't know, my engine burns through one quart of oil every 500 miles, it has between 155 and 170 psi in each cylinder with the lowest psi in the #1 and ascending pressure towards the rear of the motor. The #1 cylinder doesn't hold any pressure based on a leak down test. The engine is overall gutless due to its bad health. Too bad, it only has about 8,000-10,000 miles on it. I won't know for sure until I tear the engine down but I am assuming that the machinist who did my block didn't bore the cylinders very good.

I have thrown around ideas of building another 22re, swapping in a 7mge or a 5vz-fe. Let's say that my budget is $3,000. What motor would you use and why?

I'm leaning more towards the 7mge because it puts out the same power (less 20ft/lbs of tq) as the 5vz but is more of a bolt on application than the 5vz.

Where would I be without you to do a search on how to do an engine swap for me??

I was asking for opinions on what would others prefer... not on how to do it.

i don't know about the 7mge, but i can tell you about my experience with my 5vz swap.

it is more involved than a 3.0 to 3.4 swap, but i look at it this way, i have the power and reliability of the 5vz with the strength of a rebuilt gear drive transfer case and the 4cyl gears that should be good with 33's when i get the suspension done.
mine got a little pricey, but as the saying goes you get what you pay for, and i ended up with a first class job that is built to last.

that being said i am happy with what i have. it's so much fun to drive my truck with the acceleration it has, and it gets in the 20 plus mpg when i keep my foot out of it.

i highly recomend the 3.4, just get a cheap complete donor and you can check out toy only swaps.
