More work on the 4runner.....

Well so far I've gotten the Budbuilt T-case plate installed, bolted the MC bumper up front and installed the SR5 gauge cluster (yeah the gauge swap took all of 10 minutes). Tomorrow I'm pulling the Supra mod and Red Top along with the thirds out of the truck so the 4runner will be set up with 4.56's, a rear Aussie and a nice intake set up. The factory 4.10's are going back into the truck and after a tire swap she's going up for sale. Of course this means I'm going to be selling my extra 1st gen 4runner roll bar, a MC rear bumper off of an 86 pickup and the front home-made-cow-catcher bumper that was on the 4runner when I got it. I'm hoping to make enough by selling the extra parts to afford an MC rear for the runner and then put some back along with what I can save out of my next paycheck for the lift.

So far the total cost for the 4runner has been 1500$ buy in, 30$ in misc parts (exhaust etc) and 72$ for the gauges. I don't consider the bumpers/gears/locker/Supra mod/Red Top in the mix since those were bought for the truck. Swapping parts means that they are free right?? HA!!!!

No Scuba, no pictures yet. You'll have to wait until the end of the weekend when I can get the top off the runner and pose it for you. I love anything topless.

Not according to the web site. The Marlin Crawler pickup bumper fits outside the frame, the 4runner bumper goes inside.

olharleyman 03-20-2009 05:32 PM

Why not test fit it and see if you can make it fit before you sell it.

I could try it but I don't have a torch or welder here.

No they don't fit without making new holes, but you can always just weld it on without drilling. Mine fit outside the frame. Mine came off of an 87 P/U.
If you have a trailer hitch out back, like I did, it will need to come off, the bolts are in the way.

paying someone to weld it on would be a heck of a lot cheeper than getting a new one

Very true. That's what I did.

This is what I needed to see. I've been outside for the past little while with the neighbor (who has access to a welder and some other goodies) and we were trying to figure out how to mount the bumper. With the measurements we took the bumper will indeed fit outside of the frame but the two rear body mount brackets are in the way. I was thinking we could use the factory bumper hangers, with some slight mods, to hang the MC. We'll have to cut the MC up a little to get everything to fit and bolt up and I'll have to add a couple of small welds for added security.

Phil do you have any pictures of the underside of your rig or can you maybe explain what you had to do to get the MC up in there?

hey what are you going to do with your BJ spacers? and your ZUK mod in the rear??? and if you dont keep your MC rear bumper how much would you want to sell it for?? what about your marlin front bumper???

scuba 03-20-2009 11:34 PM

Lmao..

I cant believe your selling the ext cab though...
Hopefully it will sell to someone that will actually appreciate it..

I knew you'd swap stuff over to the runner...

I'm wondering how you're going to drive around with the jackstand under your bumper though....

The BJ's and ZUK's are going with the truck. The MC front is already on the 4runner and I don't know what I'll want for the rear yet. I'm really hoping I can make it fit the runner since I don't have 300+ dollars for a new one and shipping.

Yeah but I fought the idea.:domo:

The runner just makes more sense as an offroad rig/camping vehicle.

Junkers88 03-21-2009 04:50 PM

Well that's done. Pulled the 4.56's out of the truck and swapped back in the factory 410's then pulled the 4.10's out of the 4runner and swapped in the 4.56's. Man that was a long 6 hours. If I had any beer in the house I think I'd drink about 8 of them and take my butt to bed.

Tomorrow all the tires get swapped over, swap the supra mod and then see about getting the MC rear modified and welded on.

Next weekend I'm going wheeling!

I've got access to a plasma cutter, torch, mig, tig and stick. I'm hoping to do the mock up tomorrow morning and weld it up before lunch. I can weld I just didn't have access to any really nice equipment until today.

scuba 03-21-2009 06:23 PM
