Mod my housing for an elocker or Trail-Gear Rock Assault?
Which housing would you do and why?
I'm getting ready to put an elocker in my 86 4runner. Basically the options that are within my price range are either to mod existing housing or get a Trail-Gear Rock Assault housing that is already setup for an elocker. All the drama on other forums aside the Rock Assault housing looks like a nice sturdy unit to me. But it is $400+ that I could certainly use for other upgrades. I guess my main reservation with modding the stock housing is making sure it is sealed up right. Can anyone who has done this mod offer any feedback?
Thanks,
Ron

I can't speak from direct experience, but I don't think the stock housing mods are too bad to do. Definitely would save a lot from a new TG housing.
Here are some writeups I have found.

Some good pics of what has to be done to the housing, and wiring explanations. My plan is to put one in my front axle at some point, so I have been doing a little research.

I modified a housing for the e-locker. It was not that bad. The directions on the 4x4Wire site are good. Adding extra metal to where the new, long studs go is probably necessary. I think the most difficult parts are getting the long studs aligned properly and cleaning the metal shavings from the housing. Sealing is not an issue, just use a small bead of RTV on both sides of the stock gasket.
