In The Middle Of Engine Removal.. Question
Finally got the new motor assembled on the engine stand. Today i am taking out the old one. I am in the middle of dissassembling the motor. My issues now are exhaust to manifold and getting fuel line of rail. I jsut need to get a deep socket to get the pipe removed from the manifold but I am at a loss to get to the stuff under the inake. Is it easier to remvoe the intake to get to the fuel rail to remove the fuel line or is there a trick to get at that part of the motor? This is pretty much the last large obstacle to get it out.

pass side frame rail, there is a place to undo the fuel line. Should be 14mm and 19mm wrenchs.
Take that line apart there, then mess with the motor once you have it out of the truck. |
What motor are you working on removing?
|
22re. I found the couplnig to remove the fuel line, just praying not to strip the things.
|
Why don't you just take the filter loose from the engine mount?
|
the filter would still be attached to the fuel lines tho.
Do yourself a favor and get a good set of line wrenches. You will need them again some day, and you'll be kicking yourself when you round off that line. |
Yeah, I know. I was just thinking it'd be easier to fool with the fuel filter and lines once the motor's out.....that's all.
|
well i knew that, hence why i told him to remove the soft line from the frame-mount hard line on the pass side frame rail!
Damn kids never listen...... |
I got the line wrenches but even trying to be as gentle as i can, they stripped. SSSSOOOO Is the rubber line from the large union to the fuel filter readily available at the stores or made of unobtainium? Best thing be for me now is to cut the line, yank the motor out and i can deal with getting the stripped portiof of the rubber line out of the union. I did unfortunately mangle both side so now it looks like i can get away with replacing the rubber line assembly and leaving the rest as is. I swear the liquid wrench didnt do a thing but lube up the line wrench to strip it. OH well, just need to progres on and get it working. I still have one stubborn exhaust bolt on the exhaust stud, impact wont break it, given i have 3 extensions in line and all the torque is getting robbed by the assmbly. Thanks for the help guys, time to sit back and relax a bit.

A lot of people on here scream "penetrating lube" when things wont break loose, but often, it does more harm than good. This would be one of those cases. If you cant get a wrench all the way around a line, never use that stuff.
That said, yes the lines are still available. You may have to get it from the dealer, but at least all hope is not lost! |
Yeah seeeing it was a rubber line and the age of the truck i should get a new one. Just want to ask before i leap. So i will cut it tomorrow and then get exhaust off and hope i can get this done with.
Thanks!! |

Damn kids never listen...... Actually, I didn't realize you were referring to the soft line. I'd just use a torch, myself. :fire2: |
