Matching an engine serial number to VIN on an '87 22R
Is there any way to do this? I was poking around the engine today while flushing my system and came across the block number. It has absolutely nothing to do with the VIN in any way. Is there any way to match an engine to a truck to verify that it's original?
I've been searching the heck out of this tonight and it looks like not? |
No one has figured this out?

There's no way that this applies to the 22r...? From what I've read the engine serial number has zero to do with VIN. Just wondering if there's a way to match the two online or something...

The engine serial number does not coincide with the production number of the chassis. It is however recorded on the original sales documents. The dealer or toyota might still have these but I wouldn't count on it.
Here is a TSB that gives some serial number locations for newer toyotas Here is a TSB, that gives some transmission serial number locations. Handy info, the first three digits gove the manufacture year and month, the 4th digit(2nd letter) is the transmission model. Again for newer models, but meh good info. Autozone gives a handy locator for the serial number. Anyways the engine number don't match up with the VIN production number. Mine is definately original to the chassis and is not my VIN production number |
