Manual Hubs
 

I'm just a student, and I travel 50 miles per day. I need better gas mileage and have read that manual hubs can give me a few more mpgs. I did some looking and was curious, are these the right ones?:

Also, what else do I need to install these/a set? are AISINS better? I have no idea where to get them besides ebay and I'd like to just get some brand new ones.

Look up the maintenance and repair section under tech write-ups. You will find how to replace both. I have never had Warn hubs, but most here will say the Aisins are better. Your mileage will improve a little because there will be less moving parts up front, and they also help because with less moving parts, less wear.

I have the warns, I like them better than the aisins. no real reason, i just like them better. My warns went on pretty easy, didnt need anything but what was in the box.


If your looking for more mileage I would consider swapping all fluids to synthetic too, at least start with rear end...

I have the Warns. IMHO, they have one HUGE advantage over the Aisins - a lifetime warranty that will be honored anywhere Warn is carried (which is to say just about any 4x4 shop).

It took longer to jack up the truck and take the wheel off than to replace the ADD plate with the hub. I have noticed that the 6 acorn nuts come loose easily - definitely use some lockwashers and/or locktite (blue)

I would go with the Aisin's, I hear that they rarely break and rather than $125 + shipping you can pick up some at the junkyard for like $40. You might have to clean them, but so what. Get a little wheel grease, a little RTV sealer, slap em on and your CV's will be free and your truck will have that nice "factory" look.

I'll seriously consider AISINS, but I don't know if there is a yota junkyard in SA.

I found the stearing is smoother also.
I personaly would rather pay for and replace a hub then a axle,CV joint or any other part of the wheel assebly then have stronger hubs.

i didnt really notice a rise in MPG after going to Manual hubs. some people said they did see a difference. i do notice the steering is a little smoother / easier like vodoo said. i vote for asians cheaper just as strong if not stronger, and they use the factor cone washers so you dont have to worry about the nuts falling out or having to see lock tight on them
