LT1/LS1 swap (fuel injection)? Anyone completed this?
I have no problem aquiring either of these motors from my very good friend Gerre(race car builder/driver/fabricator)
http://members.aol.com/Racepower/team.htm I know Downy makes the bellhousings and can order me a Centerforce clutch kit for a V8 chevy (either make) to mate up to my stock 5 speed tranny (R151F?) Just asking to see if anyone has done it here. I searched on this forum and some other toyota specific's and really did not find anything. I know custom gauges would have to do instead of the stock instrumentation but as far as just putting the motor IN the bay, I would like to see some pics! Thank you guys! -Jonathan Mann |
Maybe too soon to write back, but I have been searching for about an hour and a half now on Google and Yahoo now and still have found nothing!
I guess its time to call Downy LOL:laugh: |
what vehicle do you have? Do *NOT* put a V8 in front of a G or W series tranny. An R series will survive is treated with care.
|
I know, I built ,over 3 years, a Mk3 supra so I know ALL about the R series and how much abuse they can take! The R150 series can take MASSIVE amounts of abuse. Take for instance a guy on one of the Supra forums is running a stock tranny (R154) and stock rearend with a one piece Aluminum driveshaft and is pumping 808whp to the wheels!:great: (Final Stage Auto in Las Vegas) and its survived 20+ extremely hard launches with M/T drag slicks on the strip!
Anywho, I have a 1991 5speed V6 4x4. Basically a prime canidate for doing a little motor swap. I believe that would mean I have the R151F? |
I dont know for sure, but I've been told an LS1 is an extremely tight fit (lots of beating and cutting).... But like i said, dont know for sure.. would be interested to see someone do it though!

Never mind, its the R150F correct? Judging by this :
http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...ans/7remov.pdf Either way, I am going to dig pretty deep into this. Painless makes a wiring harness (universal) for the LS1/LT1 motors either carb'd or EFI. I might just go carb. since it would be alot easier to wire up, and simple to maintain (I wont have to worry about EFI electrical gremlins and such:con: I have read that some people have gotten some electricals simply "wet" and the car would run awful (cannot remember the exact part). LS1 http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku -Jonathan PS: The 275hp and 340lb/ft of torque STOCK sounds REALLY REALLY nice! Imagine a nice performance cam and a high flow manifold and a large Holly carb! Your talking 350hp and 400+lb's of torque! Not to mention high recipricating mass of the engine and how it could pull the light 4runner up hills! |
A guy over at toyota nation did it...
His nick is 90ls1toy. Here's a thread with a few pics and a little info in it. http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t143831.html http://www.ovrrdrive.made2own.com/up...ruckls1009.jpg |

Found what I need:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MakeTrack=true Alot cheaper than Summit  Looks like this could be a real possibilty. Good god, I am selling the Supra for school money, then I get cought up in this all over again. I think I am addicted to tuning/modifying vehicles...and driving them.:hillbill: |

It's not an uncommon swap. Search around over on Pirate4x4 (you'll have to pay $20 to search). My friend has one of those engines in his toyota. He can smoke his 38" tires and it accelerates faster than my miata.

Well that sure gives me a good nights rest.
I am so used to high speeds and overpowered cars, when I drove the 4runner for the first week it was almost rediculously slow. But then again why do I need to go that fast in a 4000lb truck (rollovers)? But get-up and go is key. I want TORQUE. The chevy motors have it (the LT/LS1's have the cam sensors near the water pump in the front so no more having to bash out firewalls. As so I have been shown.:nerd: |
