Lockright Problems
 

So I just got a Lockright for my truck. I installed it in a third member from a 1984 pickup with 4.10 gears and then put it in my 2wd pickup. Everything fit in real nice with no problems. I then take it out and drive it around it seemed to run smoothly. I took it for a few runs down the road, gravel road, and on the highway. I really notice the extra traction, but it seems to be acting like a spool. I hear absolutly no ratcheting when i do u-turns, I just leave black marks on the pavement since both tires seem to always be turning at the same speed. I am confused, I thought that the lockright was supposed to unlock during turns. Any help or suggestions would be great.

Jack up the truck, have someone hold one tire in place, then slam the other side one way, if it unlocks and turns more without force its unlocking..

I dont really hear mine..I feel it if im in gear..Or I push the clutch in and dont feel it

Are you auto or manual ?

Oh and, The locker will only unlock if it doesnt have throttle, If youve been feathering it with only a little gas through turns thats why...
So try taking your foot of the gas..

I will try that tomorrow after i get back from work. I know that when I was coasting around corners today the truck felt like the brakes were being applied and would slow down quickly, also i could hear my inside tire scraping along.

And I am drivin a 4-speed manual

Deff let off the gas and put it into neutral around a sharp corner..

i just installed my lockright and it WILL click and unlock if you let off the gas and either push in your clutch or put it in neutral. driving slowly around corners with a tiny bit of throttle will make it chug/jump like you have described.

What fluid are you running back there? My Aussie (similar to a Lockrite) hated anything thin and synthetic was out of the question. I think I finally settled on 90w-140 so it would unlock around corners.

I run 75w synthetic. I can get the locker to unlock easily, it just takes the right amount of throttle around the given corner..

however parking lots are the exception :D

I'm with you there! I love the way folks look at me when I make a sharp turn in the parking lot and the back end starts that "clunk-clunk-clunk-clunk*. UFO indeed!

I run 85w 140 with my aussie but I don't know, the lockright might be different.

Definitely jack it up and make sure it is in fact unlocking, if you don't have someone to hold the other tire just jack one side up and leave the other one on the ground and turn the tire that's in the air. It should rotate with little effort.

It is still not unlocking around any turns no matter if coast around the turns or if I have it in neutral. I have a feeling I might know why it is doing this now. I checked through the Lockright box and on the bottom it in the corner i noticed that there was a very small piece of on of the springs in there (probably only 1/5 of the total spring). I am pretty sure that it was one of the larger springs that i found. Could this still cause it to be lock all the time?

Replace the springs.....

But you live in canada so that's important.

that little bit of the spring should not matter about the actuation. your locker may just be tight, as was the one i had in my old jeep. although it probably won't hurt any thing i would contact the supplier ar the manufacturer of the lockerand see about a waranty for defect. just dont throw the piece of spring away. as they may want proof of the defect. but like i said it may be tight, and need to be "broken in". done just by driving.
