lift questions
ok so to start it off,I have a 1990 ext cab toyota pickup. It has the sr5 pacakge with the 3.0 v6 auto tranny.I plan to go big with the truck as of now it has stock supsension and 31x10.50s.I want to run 37s-39s somwhere in that region.Im just not sure if I can clear them with a 4in suspenion lift and 3in body lift.I have seen 3 or 4 trucks with this combo and running 37s but its rare. So,I have started searching around for kits and what not and I see 4 to 5inch suspenion lifts. What makes it change from a 4in to a 5in?After looking deeply I notice the tacoma has supsion kits larger than 5inches and that made me start thinking. The tacoma ultimately has the same suspension as my truck. Can a tacoma suspension lift fit my truck?Has anyone ever tried to fit a tacoma lift on a 2nd gen yota?If thats not possible what else could I do besides a sas to get more than 7-8inches of lift? The sas look really good on the truck but would be pointless to me besides clearing bigger tires.I owuldnt ever need all the flex it delivers as I only play in the mud.Would it be worth it to just go ahead and do a sas?
I know the right gear ratio for the size tires. But,I just read a few threads up that I would need a cooler on my tranny!?Ive never heard of this before on a automatic transmision.I can see how it would help and makes sense but is it absolutly needed?I would love to go to a manual tranny and prolly will when It gets down to lifting the truck.
That pretty much covers all my questions I just didnt want to jump into buying stuff and it not come out like I wanted it to.

well first off, 37-39 inch tires on IFS is crazy. your gonna be breakin alot of parts if you plan on takin it off the pavement. sounds like you gonna need a SAS. a auto 3.0 pullin 39s is gonna be a DOG. you need horsepower for mud boggin. throw a 350 in it. but if your gonna keep that 3.0 a manual is probably somethin you gonna want with like 5.71s or 5.29. if it was me, i would put a 350 in it, full size axles and 39s. this is just my 2cents.some of the more experienced guys will chime in here directly.

Get rid of the autotragic. They were the worst auto toyota produced... (still better then many domestic alternatives). Swap in a 5sp.
The 89-95 hi-trac IFS is not even close to the 96+ IFS. Nothing will swap.
The change of 4-5" of lift comes from torsion bar adjusting...
Heres a way to get 9" of lift without SFA
4" bracket lift + 1.5" balljoint spacers (with a .5" t-bar crank)
Rear matching lift (that'l be fun!)
3" body lift
Or build a SFA up (you need to build the axle, stock for stock IFS and SFA are the same strenghwise) and do a 6" sas (about 8" of lift)

from reading around I have seen the bj spacers are a cuase to alot of things breaking up front like idle arms.
I figured the tbars being cranked was the extra inch the kits have.
how come there isnt a kit bigger than 4inches?
I have read on cardomain where peoaple have a procomp 6 inch suspension lift on 2nd gen yotas. Are they lying or did there used to be a kit that was 6inches.
