Leaking Rear Tranny Seal and Top Tranny Gasket
 

Hey guys, looking for a little advice here.
I just found out that my rear tranny seal is leaking as well as the gasket to the cover that sits on top of the tranny just behind the shifter (not sure what it is actually called).
From what I can figure, the rear seal aint all that hard, just take the 4 bolts out of the rear of the drive shaft and pull it out of the tranny. Take the old seal out and put the new one in.
However the one on top seems like it could be a little tricky so I was looking for advice.

I assume you're talking manual transmission. If so, the top gasket is not too hard. Just remove the center console (probably the hardest part because you're dealing with all that plastic), take the knobs and boot off the shifters, and you'll be looking at the bolts you need to undo to remove the top plate with the shift levers. Put in a new gasket and you're good to go. Just make sure, when you reassemble, that you get the shift levers properly in the slots of the shift rails. It's pretty obvious how things should go together.

Sometimes it's worthwhile removing one of the front seats to reduce the contortion factor, especially if age is creeping up on you, as it is on me.

It's quite possible the top gasket is your only problem. Oil runs downhill. I replaced my front drive shaft seal thinking it was the source of my leak. When the leak continued, I looked further and found the problem with the top gasket. Once I fixed that no more leaks.

It is possible but it is easy to do the rear and I'm pretty sure its leaking as well so I may as well. (Actually because I already bought the seal lol)

Just also found out that the distributer gasket is all mangled so my front main might not be leaking, it may be drip from the cap. (I am praying it is)
