Late night boredom mod

I got a Sony walkman MP3 player for Christmas and since the only time I'll use it is in the 4runner, I wanted to make a neat semi-permanent mounting place...I used various little pieces of leftover scrap I had laying around and put it together..Thought it turned out decent, I'll take a pic or two when it's installed in the truck tomorrow. I also sanded down and painted everything from brown to black. Going to eventually do the whole interior over to black, but for now just doing one piece at a time.

I attached the audio cable that connects to the radio directly to the mounting base for the MP3 player, that way I can just grab the MP3 player and toss it in my pocket or whatever and don't have to look at the cable flopping around.

That's pretty cool. I like it. Sadly my Ipod batteries last about 3 hours, so its only being used maybe a dozen times in the 3 years I've had it. What a bloody waste of money that was.

Now if you could integrate a charger, that would awesome.

my i pod adapter on my pioneer deck charges my ipod while in use.
great for the 4-5 hour trip between home and school, never dies!

i'd do that for my ipod with the power/audio cable that came with my dvd deck, but you have to squeeze the sized to detach it.... :(

nice mod though, i like the way it looks toward you.

looks great! cool idea... wanted to do that with my ipod, but i never got around to it...

and yotasavg, if you dont want to press those pesky little tabs to unhook it, then why not get some needle nose pliers and disable them... i.e. pull them out... it wont hurt the cord...

Heres a picture of everything back in the truck..The MP3 player looks like its sitting pretty straight, but it's leaned back more than you can tell in the picture which is what I wanted so it would be easier to see.

I also mounted an ac power inverter in the center console, did some trimming of the console lid, this way you can plug something in and close the lid. When it's closed all you see is small little cord of whatever you have plugged in coming out the side.

ok now, getting a little carried away now, lol, jk man, great job!

I started doing little stuff like that to my Cherokee once, and ended up installing a static ball on the dash that turned on when I turned the lights on, lmao... back when I 1st learned the basics on wiring, soldering, using resisters, and things like that... plus I was only 16, and a static-ball sounded like an awesome idea at the time :P
