just blew my engine 93 4runner 3.o HELP???

Two techs have told me its not worth replacing and to get rid of it. But i love my yoda and just dumped 1500 on new wheels and tires. Its got 200k on it. Opinions??? One said if i put in a new engine, with that many miles, then next is the tranny, then the front end, blah blah balh......

what should I do.....replace the engine?

yeah i have been reading about the swap. I myself am not techy enough to do it, so i would have to pay someone. I have enough tools to change spark plugs.

I still owe 2700 on this thing. is the 3.0 replacement not worth it?

Like, 3.4 or nothing?

Some people have good luck with the 3.0, some don't. Mine was starting to overheat, lose compression, and suck back fuel. I did the swap a year and a half ago and have never looked back.

But it's not for everyone. You need a hoist, engine stand, and about a good solid week of work. Before this, the biggest job I ever tackled was pulling the head off a Sunfire and replacing the timing chain. It was a great learning experience, though.

Get the motor rebuilt. Its cheaper than total replacement unless the block is screwed then nvrm lol. The 3.0 is a good motor i've had 2 of them and put alot miles on them and never had too much trouble. The only trouble i had was with a 95 4runner 3.0 and it had a rough idle when it was really a really hot day but other wise nothin. They do devlop a few top end leaks more than most but will run like any yota. FORever just keep the oil changed. Put a 22re in it lol gotta get a computer though. Maybe for money for that though.

I just replaced mine with a rebuilt motor from Oregon Engine Builders. Guarnteed for life and unlimited mileage as long as you own it. At round $1500 for the motor. Sorry I don't have the link.

Blah, blah, blah is right. I've heard this from people before, and I hate it when say that kind of crap. Older vehicles of any kind are going to require some work. The stupidity behind these kinds of statements is that chances are if you have bought used vehicle to begin with, you will buy a used vehicle again.....meaning more work. Why? Because parts wear out. Yotas just take longer....

If you love your Yota, it's worth it. So what if you put a motor in and later down the road you have to do some more work.....ie. tranny, front end, etc. On the other hand, you could be good to go on everything else for another 100k miles. Wow...is that so bad? I seriously doubt you'll have any problems with your transmission if you're maintaining well and not beating the piss out of it. They are tough pieces of machinery. The front end? Well, tie rod ends, steering linkage, all that does wear out. But, that's just maintenance. Which, again, you'll have with any vehicle.

Don't listen to those crackers. Either have your motor rebuilt, or buy one with a fantastic warranty = Oregon. No one I've met on this forum ....myself included....has regretted fixing up their Yota to get it going again. Unless, they of course got one that was very well worn from the beginning. Even, then it's called restoration.....provided you have time and money and lots of love. Plenty of people have done this with great success and still have the vehicle many miles down the road.

Last night, I had the pleasure of meeting a vintage Landcruiser. Not sure on the year......the guy was taking too long to come out of the store. Oh, but it was beautiful! Gloss red with white and chrome trim, diesel powered, factory safari soft top, factory 16" rims and 7.5 tires, spare tire w/rear mount, all original interior.....ungh....lust. But, the thing was resto'd and obviously still on the road. Was it worth it? Well, didn't ask the guy, but the cruiser sure emitted an aura of pure Yota joy. And, the choco lab in the front seat seemed rather pleased, too.

Got two places Im looking at. Tiger has one for $1290 that says its only got 25-35k on it.

then GotEngines.com has one for $1250 with 100k on it.

SOUNDS like a no brainer, but....I don't know about the tiger place, anyone know anything about these two places.

Tigers is also listed as DOHC. is that the right engine even?

I say fix the truck. Resale might not make sense but when you factor in a new vehicle purchase it does.

Plus, if you like the truck you like. That's what you often use to buy a new car right? That you like it more. If you like this one fix it.

I too have put just shy of 300,000 on a 3.0 and would have had more if it hadn't been stolen. My current truck is running like a top at 170,000. I have hardly touched either.

Sorry to hear about the engine. Some remanufactured engine offers are used, low-mileage Japanese engines imported direct from Japan.

In addition to the shop in Oregon, you can check out A1engines.com and Toyotatruckpart.com.
My 95 blew the engine at 148k. I happened to use Toyotatruckpart. Normally the cost is $1500 for the remanufactured long block + $275 for shipping. They charge an extra $350 until they get your core back and then they refund that. Total = $2125. Actually part of the $350 is for shipping the old engine back and since mine was too damaged to be reused, they knocked about $150 off the core charge and my bill came to $1975 delivered. A buddy performed the complete removal of the old engine, components swap and reinstall for $300. However, as with every good story there is a twist ... my newly installed remanufactured engine is running too low on oil pressure. Toyotatruckpart agreed to send me another one and then we will send back the 1st remanufactured engine - all at their cost. The deal was just hammered out today. Until then we were told to drive it cautiously unless we hear a knock.
I did notice that A1engines claims to perform end of line testing including compression, oil flow, oil pressure and fluid checks.

Good luck!
