Issues with Warn Premium locking hubs
Hey guys, just got a 1995 Toyota pickup a month or so back from a friend, trucks in really good shape and everything has been rebuilt/replaced recently. He told me the hubs were picky and that he had trouble locking them or getting them to stay locked. Well I decided to test it out and t: he 4x4 works fine (can feel the load of the transfer case in 4x4 and see the driveshaft turn) and I have managed to get the hubs to engage once. The problem is that they will "click/lock" into free but not into lock. I took the caps out and they will click into both positions with the cap off. Hubs look great, gaskets are perfect and absolutely no water/mud or anything funky behind the caps and the bearings were replaced about 500 miles ago. Any thoughts?
*Edit: I originally thought it might be the springs on the back side of the caps and they might not have the stiffness to engage the hubs anymore, is that possible? They felt a little soft compared to others, but not sure that could be it, not sure what it could be at all with them being so new, they did function fine when he first put them in though (known the guy for a while, and have seen them work personally). If so do the rebuild kits include the springs?
Thanks guys

Maybe too much grease in the hubs themselves? Have you made sure they are locking and unlocking as they should? I don't believe even the factory hubs you can hear click all the time. At least not on mine.

Could be the case since the wheelbearings were replaced recently, I'll check to be sure. And yes, they lock/unlock like they're supposed to. And you're right but usually you can at least feel a little engagement when you turn them, or at least with all of the trucks I've had. Wish this truck had the Aisins like the old Yota did.

These Warn premiums IMO other then on Fords (some come factory with them My 84 Bronco did) are a big POS. Especially when comparing them to our Aisin ones. But the Warns are better then those MileMarker ones.

Did they install the spacer / bolt that came with the Warn Hub kit? If you read the instructions for installing the Warn hubs some trucks need the spacer / bolt others do not. Just a thought.
