Interior and dome lights not working

I tried searching this already and have tried a couple of things. My problem is my 92 extra cab. The dome lights will not work. I tried replacing the bulb, checking the fuses, and checking my door sensor, but everything was fine. I don't know what could be wrong. My door buzzer does not come an also. It seems that these things do not have power going to them but I don't know what's causing it. Thanks

Turned the rheostat for the dimmer on the dash?

Can you turn the lights on manually with the switch on the light? Door switches are grounds, make sure youre getting a ground through your switch.

Its not the dimmer switch, I messed with that too. I haven't checked for a.ground yet. And I can't get the lights to work manually either

Door buzzer or key left in ignition buzzer?

Look at schematic in FSM (link on my signature) and see what dome light circuit and buzzer circuit have in common. Where does that circuit get its Pos12V from battery? Where does it get ground?

Best of luck.

Put a voltmeter on the fuse (both sides, since you don't know which is the battery side) to assure you get 12v on both sides. Then check for 12v up at the dome light itself (who knows, you may have a bad bulb.)

Don't have a voltmeter? No excuse for that. http://www.harborfreight.com/7-funct...ter-98025.html Looking for electrical problems without a multimeter is like cave exploring without a flashlight.

Thanks guys I'll try that. The buzzer is for the key left in ignition not door, my bad

The dash rheostat is only for the binnacle/heater/radio lights it does'nt affect any other lights in the truck.
I was messing with the main electrical fuse box behind the driver's side kick panel the other day and now I have no dome light/ignition light/key alarm function either... think I may have left a harness unplugged on the fuse box... you need to take the whole panel out to see the whole thing as you know... look for a disconnected/loose plug.
These alarm/delay functions are controlled by the relay box which is plugged into the back of the white fuse box and the harness which plugs into it.

I've got the same problem in my 88 4Runner. Please update us if you find the problem, and I'll post a note if I get mine solved in the meantime.

I'll have to keep digging. I cant find any blown fuses or disconnected wires

Guys,
while you're digging in there, if you figure out how to remove this fuse/relay block from the bulkhead, please share pics/description. I already removed the screw on bottom, tried to slide it forward/backward/up/down but it would not budge, and I don't want to force and break anything. Need to access the rear in order to do clean mod wiring.
TIA,
RAD

Your dome light wont work if your buzzer box is unhooked on most trucks. It is straight above the brake pedal. Most disconnect the buzzer box to stop the buzzer not realizing it controls the dome light. I have a post on my 88 4Runner build how do disable the buzzer on the first page.

On the cut out just above the 15 and 20 amp fuse slide your middle finger until it stops. Your finger should kind of feel like it is inbetween 2 pieces of plastic, that is the release tab. Lift straight up on it and with your thumb and pinky or ring finger you should be able to grasp the fuse box on the sides and slide it straight off (horizontally) of the 2 tabs that hold it at the top of the fuse block.

I'm sure this won't help, but I was told the Dome Light Housing in my '95 4Runner is toast. How's your Housing hangin?

Yamiryder 08-23-2012 06:15 PM

My housing seems fine...I'll have to go check above my brake pedal to make sure that is still connected.

Thanks Terry! Worked! You Da Man! :) now I'll be able to clean up my light reminder mod, and finish up my Deck Light Mod so I can turn on deck light from the back without having to scramble to the front to turn on the tail lights.

Before you start tearing up your wiring, consider this:
