Intake question
 
Hello all, I'm new here sorry if this is a newb question. I just got an 93 Toyota pick-up 4x4 manual, 4 cyl. I already have a sweet exhaust, k&n filter, raised, all terrian tires, etc.

I'm looking for a better intake I could use, but I can't seem to find anything. Can anyone give me some advice? I would prefer not to make my own.

search for battery intake swaps. you will see some ideas.

If you are swimming in cash, just google LC engineering intakes or a full K and N setup. I would say its hardly worth the couple hundred dollars when you still have the 2.5" chokepoint in your stock AFM

Alos, search Supra MAF if you want to move the chokepoint from the AFM down to the throttle body. :great:

I looked up the supra AFM swap and I'm interested in doing this. correct me if I'm wrong, but since I have a 22re, as long as the part number is 22250-43110 or 22250-43150 it will work? Would I have to get the engine re-tuned after the swap, or could I just switch them out and it's good to go?

I didn't get anything re-tuned, and there is one part number that is plug and play.....

22250-43110

Supposedly only on an 82 supra, but it has been rumored to be on some mid 80's cressidas as well, I personally have never seen it.

I know the straight swap works perfect for the late 80's 22re's, shouldn't be different for you, but I would search around and see if anyone in your year range has done it, just to be safe, before you take all the time hunting one down to find it doesn't work.

You can get a nice short ram intake on ebay for $40 shipped. The pic is of my truck...

Hey bridger, did you see the heat shield I built for my cone filter? So far it has helped in keeping my intake temps down. On the trail I was pulling in 112 degree air while BBP was pulling 72 degree air with his snorkel........... Hoping this helps bridge the gap some.

Well its open on the front side, so if I get a little over zealous on the puddles I could be in trouble. Weatherstripping might be hard to find, I thought about just getting another piece of mteal and just make a hinged lid to keep heat from coming in between the hood and the top of the box

Bridger5228, "short air intake" comes up with lots of different types for different car types.. yours seems to fit perfect, what type did you use?

Is that a Supra MAF you have connected to it?

looks like a stock AFM with an adapter plate on it to accommodate a cone filter.

Did you type in 22re intake and see what comes up?


EDIT** Checked a couple variations and nothing came up. (4runner ram intake, 4runner cone filter, toyota 2.4 intake, etc....) Good luck!!

I put 30" BFG's on my stock 91 reg cab 4WD... And went from 400 miles to a tank, to 300... 90% highway...

Jason, if you're looking for power, convert yer motor. If you want an engine you can depend on with your life and gets 20MPG doing it... The 22RE's your huckleberry...

Can't have both...

Dude, search for an intake for your truck LOL. Do a search for toyota pickup short ram. Nope it's the stock AFM, I highly doubt it would be worth my while to swap in the Supra AFM. If you want more power(worth noticing) you will need a massaged head, cam and a header.

Hello all,

I've put in my new 3" pipe intake and I just replaced the stock AFM with the 82 supra AFM (I'll post a pic later). It works nicely; I noticed a very slight increase in power and it seems to compliment my quick flow cat and exhast nicely. I've yet to find out how it effects mpg.

Question: Theres another small tube that connects back into the filter. I noticed other people left it disconnected so I did the same with mine and don't notice any difference. Should I plug it up? Or just leave it unconnected? Any advice on this is appreciated.

nice. I think you can get a small filter to put on the end of the hose. Would hate for dirt to get there. Can you remove the hose and stick a mini cone filter from the ricer section of the local auto parts joint right up near the Intake manifold? Just an idea.

? sorry i deffinatly am a nuwb what is the AFM conversion from the supra 4? i really like the short ram intake idea ive seen it a couple of time but i really like your idea with the heat shield the last one i seen was pritty guetto it was cardboard soked in fiberglass resin used as a heat shield

hey picture trying to pull air through a tiny straw with a springloaded trap door and thats the stock Air Flow Meter swapping the afm makes a big dif
