intake help!!
 

hey, i have a 93 pickup with the 3.0 in it and want to do that silencer removal tube for the intake. found on summit that they sell a intake kit for the car, but only goes up to the silencer. however they give me a pdf file on how to install it

just reading it for some tech questions, but in the first diagram on the right, they show a resonator chamber, primary resonator hose, a vent hose, and a secondary resonator hose.

what exactly does that stuff do and do i need it? i was looking into just makin my own tube intake and just buyin a knn filter to remove the air box. i know i need the mass air sensor but what does the resonator and all the hoses actually do?? and if i remove them, do i get a check engine light or any problems driving the truck? thanks in advance!!

Don't get the K&N system. You will get horrible screaching noises from your airbox.

The crank case vent hose goes into your intake, it takes filtered air from it, and also pushes air back into it.

The other hose, in not 100% sure what it does, but I would leave things like that connected. I just got some fittings and stuck them into my ISR tube.

yea i deffinitly dont want to spend the money for knn. but if i just take the hoses from my resonator and stick them into fittings on the isr tube, and just throw on a cone filter on the end, will that work? or is there something in the resonator that is needed? didnt take it apart, but im assuming its just an empty chamber? maybe? haha

all you need to do is take the stuff off between the headlight and the airbox. the stupid elbow is the actual intake silencer. I just popped the airbox out, and drilled out the plastic rivet (its on the bottom ) and the tube popped right off... leaves you with just like a 3" hole in the front of the box. the I drilled some drain holes in case I got water in there. make sure you clean the box after and get rid of all the plastic debris from drilling..... and pop it back in. takes like 20 min.

ok bry-an, so you kept the resonator and stock air box?

Most people who do the ISR mod just replace the pipe going from the airbox to the throttle body. That is infact what the ISR mod means - intake silencer removal.

The stock airbox works better then those cheap cone filters. You get colder air and the stock filters work WAY better. Trust me don't get a K&N cone and replace the airbox with it.

alright thanks alot! do you think doing like a knn filter in the stock air box be worth it? or just stick with like a paper fram?

Personally I can't stand K&N filters. They are 40 year old technology! I would stick with an OEM denso paper filter. They are tried and true :) They are also very cheap.

alright thanks, wasnt really sure. im use to working on old big blocks with carberators. used to be very big into drag racing, and all i know is that in that field KNN is the only way to go! wasnt sure if it was worth it on a small stock engine.
