Ignition problems. Any way to check the Igniter?
 

94' 4runner 3vze.
I think my Igniter has gone bad however, I'm not sure how to test it. Could not find any info on FSM posted at http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-buchanan/93fsm/

Engine runs rough at idle and often stalls. While idling the engine consistently loops from near stall to aprox 1000rpm.

Diagnosis till now.
New plugs(properly gapped)
New injectors
New wires
Newer distributor(properly gapped and inspected)
Primary and secondary Coils tested
BTDC set @ 8-10deg
Vol. Air Flow Meter checked for proper resistance.

When removed plugs have excessive fuel and carbon build up.

Items yet to diagnose. Igniter & ECU/ECM.
Could a faulty TPS be the cause?

Wouldn't a bad igniter throw a code?

Here's what I got, don't know if it's your trouble. You'll find out I guess.

Take a circuit tester ( screw driver with light in handle) and put it on the negative side of the coil and ground the other end. Have someone crank the engine for you. If the light blinks, then the distributor is breaking fire, if it doesn't blink, something is wrong inside the distributor.

No Code is given. Drove for 15mi. since problem.

I have yet to see an ignitor fail, that doesn't mean it can't happen..
The more common problem is the signal generator in the distributor itself.
IF they pass specs in the FSM, the only way to really check is with an oscilliscope.
