Ignition Issue

I replaced the distributor cap, ignition wires, and rotors today. I believe I have the wires going where they should be, but when I go to start the vehicle it simply *click, click, click*s.

Does anyone have a diagram of the spark plug cables routing?

It's a 3.0 V6 by the way.

Does the starter turn the engine? It sounds like your battery is dead...

I think the firing order is on the underside of the hood, but I can't remember where the cylinder numbers are located; someone here will know.

is the distributor accidentally flipped 180*?

distributor is on correctly. I have 1 going to passenger side front cylinder, 2 to driver's side front, 3 passenger mid, 4 driver mid, and 5 passenger rear, and 6 driver's rear.

it does not appear to be turning the engine. just clicking away.

Well, if your engine is not turning then you have another problem. The battery/starter system is independent from the ignition system. The clicking is likely a symtom of a battery that does not have enough juice to turn the starter/engine. I'd check my wiring (that sounds right, what you have above, but I can't remember) then get a jump start. If the engine turns, but does not start then it could be something else (voltage reg/coil stuff/ etc...) My two cents...

i took the cap off, removed the rotor to make sure it was on correctly. It does not appear the rotor has moved at all. I double checked the wires they seem to be going to the right location.

the battery is farely new, and it was starting just fine before replacing the rotor, cap and wires (just missing on a few cylinders).

It is fast clicking. Any other ideas? I'm going to try and get a jump later today.

Still does the same thing when trying to jump start. I'm going to start troubleshooting the starter today.

I did have a starter die in my '90 4runner. I really don't remember what the symptoms were, but the clicking sounds familiar. It's a pretty easy replacement (there's a access panel in the right front wheel well). Good luck man!
