Idle problems after AFM swap in 86 4runner

I recently did the 1982 Supra AFM swap. It works great and I feel like i get a lot better airflow with that and a cone filter, but when I start my truck it idles super low, like at 450-500 rpms. After about 20 minutes of driving, it starts to idle a lot better at a smooth 1000 rpms. Anyone know how to fix this? Also, when I push my engine at about 3200 rpms my brake and battery charge warning lights flash on.

I have another, unrelated starting problem as well. When I cold start my car it cranks, catches, and then shuts off. I have to do this a couple times before it actually starts. I can, however, start it if I give it gas when I'm starting it. Is this normal? or do i have a problem with something like my cold start injector?

Any help/ advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Andy

i think brake+charge=alternator????????? i know its something fairly specific but cant remember what exactly. seems like charge light alone would indicate alternator. look it up i guess

Battery and brake light warning light is similar to what I had and it turned out to be a bad connection (more specifically not locked in connector) on the back of the alternator. I know, it sounds too easy and weird but just check it.

Can't swear to it but I think your idle issue is do to the a need to adjust the idle bleed air screw (I think that's the right name) on the throttle body. After swapping to the larger AFM I also noticed na similar issue and fixed it by adjusting it a bit. I think it is leaning out in the cold idle.

BTW: AWESOME looking engine there!!!!! so clean you could eat off it!

Hey guys, thanks for all the advice. I'll get a chance to check it all out this afternoon and let you guys now. And worshipmentor the way I got my engine so clean is I just bought a can of engine degreaser from walmart for about 3 bucks. I sprayed it on at one of those "do it yourself" car washes and then I just used the engine cleaner setting and a high pressure rinse to clean it all off. It was super easy to do and only cost me about 5 bucks total to have a spotless engine. Id highly recommend it.

As far as your cold starting issue, I would look into your aux air valve. It should bump up your rpm's a bit until the engine is warm.
