I need 2/10ths of a quart of royal purple... or do I?

So my manual trans has been making some noise but it has not effected the driving or shifting at all. I figured instead of swapping in another I would try and make this one last till it dies. I went and picked up some royal purple gear oil 75w90 and MY GOD ITS EXPENSIVE! 19.99 a quart here at advance auto.
W56 calls for 3.2 quarts but they only had 3. Not that I would have spent 20 more bucks for a smidgin of gear oil but now Im wondering what I should use for that other .2 quarts when i fill the trans back up. Another brand of synthetic maybe? Can is use the same oil in the t-case or diffs? If so it wouldnt be bad to have some extra...

i remember running the expensive oils. then it leaks out or you break and have to discard it anyways.

Now its the $11 gallon from autozone..

Do whatever you think is best.

i'm not a mechanic- but in all my years of wrenching on & maintaining my own cars (honda cars & toyota trucks) i've learned that it's usually best to use the cheap stuff on higher mileage vehicles- i remember on my '90 2wd 22r PU i had before this one, no leaks at all, but the day i ran mobil 1 full synthetic, it started to develop a slight leak, now i use Supertech (Walmart) $10.50/ 5quart jug in my current rig- i just change it regularly. The same thing hapened on my '95 Accord, around 200k miles the tranny started to shift a little rough, so i thought i'd be "smart" & do an MTF change with some expensive full synthetic oil- it started leaking (just a bit) shortly thereafter.

just some thoughts from my own experiences......

Yes, use it in your diffs. I have it in my diffs and trans, same weight front to back and the 10W30 in the crankcase.

You can put anything in with it to make up the last bit, you'll still get the benefits of the full synthetic for the most part.

I agree with other posters though, in a play rig like mine I run cheap stuff because I end up draining it for one reason or another about every 6 months...

why dont you check if you even need it by checking the fill level bolt on the (driver's?) side of the tranny. Usually, you arent able to drain all the fluid from the tranny in the first place and you don't need the full fill capacity to totallt fill the tranny to the bolt hole on the side.
