Curse it....then kick it....then curse it again...
If that doesnt work...stroke it gently and whisper sweet nothings in her ear...
It works! (My old Triumph mechanic taught me that)

I was removing struts from a car and had use a breaker bar, a torch, WD40 AND 4' or pipe. I was applying most of my body weight- so maybe 150lbs on the pipe. At 4 feet from the bolt, thats 600 ft-lbs of torque. That's alot. It did come of though. If you apply a little heat, then PB blaster/ WD40, the heat wicks the liquid into the cracks.
Good suggestion about the impact socket. Loosening a tight bolt is one thing, but loosening a rounded off bolt is hell.

Dude...go get an electric impact wrench. They're about 120 bucks and well worth it. Heck, you'll need that impact wrench to replace your stock crossmemeber with your new Bud Built crossmember... :-)

I got mine from some online Jeep parts place, Quadratec I think, for under $10, you can also use a standard size socket but I can't remember what the mathematical conversion is....2" & something (search 54mm & you'll find it) Wab-Fab & a bunch of other places sell them.
Edit: For the love of God just do yourself & the next owner a favor & don't use the hammer & chisel method! When I took mine off last month some uber genius had done that & had my spindle nuts all $@#&*^ up.

Getting a true 54mm socket is going to be the best route, but....
You can also use a 2-1/8" thin wall SAE socket (Sears generally carries them). I have actually seen some at my local Auto Zone.
I have even heard of some people taking 2.5" muffler pipe and hammering down the edges around the nut. Sounds crude, but might work. Sometimes those nuts aren't that tight once the staked washer in the middle has been opened up.

hammer & chisel = success. If you've ever had to change an axle on the trial, it's what would be used more than likely.

what that equals is....no possible way to set bearing pre-load or torque correctly & a boogered up nut that will have to be filed smooth for the 54mm socket to ever fit it again; if it ever does.

The best I could do for the hub socket was a 55mm socket found at my local Tool King. It works just fine, it is a thin walled stamped steel socket that ran me all of 8 bucks. I didn't have time to wait or else I would have ordered a real one online.

I finally got my 17mm caliper bolts off on Sunday. after shredding a older craftsman socket wrench and twisting a Chinese made extension completely apart . Had to got to lowes and get a17mm 6 sided 'impact' socket - with that I has able to put it on a 24" Johnson Bar" with another 8" lead pipe added on.. I probably liberally
PB blaster 5 times in 10 mins . needless to say the leverage made it workk just take care to ensure you are on the right spot
w
leveraging was easly solid socket - 24: bar with a piece ironthen make 100% sure the way you are turning loosing the bolt
then plan on getting seriousregardeless - i was able to break the bolts free
regardless i was able to now get the 4 17mm bolts off . Calipers and brakes are really easy at this point. obviously you need to bleeed the brakes if you took the line off
make sure you are turning the correct way. double check it, then check it again
